How can I insert a page number in the bottom right of my document, but also have some other text in the bottom left?

For example, the image below shows what I am trying to achieve and I have done this by typing the page number manually in the footer. But this results in every page reading "1 of 2". If I try to achieve this by using the page numbering tool, it removes the text on the left hand side.

Thanks in advance for any help.

When the footer is open for editing, you can insert the page number by pressing Alt+Shift+P. This adds a PAGE field which will update dynamically from page to page.

For the total page count, you can add the NUMPAGES field. Click where you want the field and use Insert tab > Text group > Quick Parts > Field and locate NUMPAGES in the list of fields.

    More info for future reference:

Page numbers in Word are fields. The Shift+Alt+P inserts a Page field.

When you use the Insert Page Number gallery for anything other than current location, you are replacing a header or footer, not simply adding a page number. Only by directly inserting the field or using one of the current location selection can you keep an existing header or footer.

Headers and footers are a part of Sections and section breaks can confuse things.

Indeed, there is usually more than one way to accomplish the same task in Word. :-)

Note that if you typed the number 2, it will be static and continue to show up as "2" even if the total number of pages changes in the document.

Many thanks for your help Stefan.

I also found another way to do it,...

I placed my cursor where I wanted the page number, then went to Page Number >> Current Position >> Plain Number

This inserted the number 1 and then I edited it to say "1 of 2" and it seems to have worked fine on all pages.
