How can I fix my CTRL + F to search for a newly selected word instead of defaulting to the first word? Windows 11

They just upgraded us to Windows 11. Previously, I would highlight a word and press CTRL + F and the navigation pane would show me all the instances, and then I would select a new word and press CTRL + F and that word would replace the previous one. Now, when I select a word, CTRL + F only searches for that word no matter how many times I try to select another and press CTRL + F.

For example, I highlight RAD and press CTRL + F. The Navigation Pane opens and shows all the instances of RAD and they are all highlighted (like normal). Then, I highlight the word PRO and press CTRL + F and my highlight goes back to RAD and the Navigation Pane stays on RAD.

I know I can delete the word or type them in, but I am a tech writer constantly searching for acronyms and the other way was so much easier. Also, I tried closing the Navigation Pane and selecting a new word, but the Navigation Pane still opens with the previous word- it does not delete it. I don't think I'm asking for too much since the behavior used to work the way I want it. Now it's a habit - and it saved me a ton of time. I've Googled everything and tried updating the Ribbon, etc. Can someone help me?

You can use the navigation arrows on the upper right of the Navigation pane to move between matches in the document.

Alternatively, use the classic Find & Replace dialog box. You can reassign Ctrl+F to the EditFind command in the Customize Keyboard dialog box (File > Options > Customize Ribbon > Customize).

    Then use the dialog box:

You don't have to reassign to shortcut to make use of the Find & Replace dialog. You can press Ctrl+H to display the dialog box and then go to the Find tab.
