All-of-a-sudden every time I type an exclamation point or question mark in my document, they are inverted. I can't type this! Or this? Why are my exclamation points and question marks inverted and how do I undo this change? Thank you!

    Language is a text property. Different languages can creep in in various ways and apply to very small text ranges. If you selected the problem text region (or the entire document) and explicitly selected English, your problem would probably go away. While you're at it, clear the check box for "Detect language automatically," which generally causes more problems than it solves.

    Kiki;

    Managed to work around it. It only occurs at the bottom of a document I am working on. Has nothing to do with keyboard layout. Only occurs in Word in this document, last line. Don't know what you mean by "enabled input method." There is no error screen. Doc is in English. Anywhere else I type on the doc, exclamation points right-side up. That's how I worked around it: typed info. further up in the doc then pasted it at the bottom. But why would the last line of a doc suddenly change so that it is formatted in Spanish? Thank you.

    Hi  ericprobasco,

    Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

    I understand that you are having trouble on  inserting exclamation point, question mark, and I understand how you feel and will do my best to answer your questions.

    In general, the problems encountered when inverted exclamation marks and question marks appear may be due to the keyboard layout or the enabled input method. These characters are used in several languages, such as Spanish and Catalan.

    And since we tested it, we can insert exclamation points and question marks properly. So, to better troubleshoot the error, is your current input method status English? Does this type of problem occur in other software such as EXCEL, PowerPoint? What is your office version? Can you open "File" - "Account" and send me a screenshot of the specific product information? If you have a name or email address, please remember to mosaic it and upload it. Can you also send me a screenshot of the error screen?

    Are you currently changing to another input method software and do you still have this problem?

    Our sincere apologies for not resolving the problem in your first reply but the answers to the above queries will help us to better understand and move further. Thank you for your support and understanding, we look forward to hearing from you.

    Best Regards,
