Compare document and specify changes

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me is it possible to use the compare document function (or any other tool actually) to compare two documents and only copy over any macronized vowels to the original document?

Ie. The original document is written in te reo Māori but has no macrons (ā, ē, ī, ō, ū). I have another document with the same information, that has the macrons but it also has different formatting that I don't want.

So, without going through each change one by one and accepting and rejecting is it possible to only copy over the macronized vowels?

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me come up with a work around :)

Kind regards :)

    Dear Marie-Claire Hunter,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

You can use the “Compare” feature that comes with your Word software to identify and mark text differences between two documents, including additions, deletions, and modifications. As well as comparing the formatting changes in the documents. When you use the Compare feature, Word generates a new document that shows all the differences and uses revision marks to highlight the changes.

First, open the word document to be compared. Click on “Review” and then click on “Compare” option.

Under Original Documents, browse for the document you want to use as the original document. Under Revised Documents, browse for other documents to compare.

Click More and select the settings for what you want to compare in the document. Under Show Changes, select whether you want to show character or word level changes.

If you want to know more, you can refer to the following link. Compare document differences using the legal blackline option - Microsoft Support

When you use the Compare feature, Word displays the differences between the two documents. You can manually find and replace macronized vowels.

Thank you for your patience and support and please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best Regards,
