How can I change the default value for the DropCap in Word-365. Or, alternatively, set up a style?

Drop Caps in Word use a Frame.

Frames can be part of a style.

You can set up a Drop Cap the way you want and then create a new paragraph style from formatting.

This is not the same as setting defaults but could be useful. I know of no way to set the default.

I agree with Gary L. There is no option to save as default, nor is there a Drop Cap option under Format for Styles.

I have a Microsoft 365 subscription fully updated.

Thanks for your quick response. However, none of the suggestions you posted work.

First, there is no "Save as Default" option for saving the drop cap settings.

Next, there is no "Drop Cap" option in the style creation/modification dialog.

I can set and modify, that is not the issue. I have large documents with many chapters and I am trying to make the process of updating each one more efficient. It seems that this "feature" of Word cannot be changed from anything other what the developers wants.

The font defaults to the font of the paragraph, and I want to use a fancy font for the drop cap, which facilitates me changing the font manually.

My version is: Microsoft® Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2402 Build 16.0.17328.20124) 64-bit

So there is no drop cap in either the text box tools format tab nor in the text group?

Hi, I am a Microsoft user just like yourself and I will try my best to help you as much as I can today.

Open Microsoft Word 365 on your computer. Open a New or Existing Document.

Go to the DropCap Settings: Go to the Insert tab. Click on Drop Cap in the Text group. Select Drop Cap Options from the dropdown.

Set Default DropCap Value: In the Drop Cap dialog box, set the desired options for the DropCap (position, font, number of lines). Click OK to apply the changes.

Save as Default: If Word prompts you to save this setting as the default, click Yes.

Another way: Open Word 365: Open Microsoft Word 365 on your computer. Open a New or Existing Document. Go to the Home Tab: Click on the Home tab in the ribbon.

Create a New Style: Click on the Styles group dialog launcher (a small arrow in the bottom right corner of the Styles group). In the Styles pane, click on New Style. Name the new style. Click on Format at the bottom left of the New Style dialog box. Choose Drop Cap from the dropdown list. Set the desired DropCap options. Click OK to close each dialog box.

Apply the Style: Select the text to which you want to apply the DropCap style. Go to the Home tab. In the Styles group, click on the style you just created to apply it.

If you want to change the existing style to include DropCap settings:

Modify the Style: Go to the Home tab. In the Styles group, right-click on the style you want to modify. Choose Modify. Click on Format and choose Drop Cap. Set the desired DropCap options. Click OK to close each dialog box.

See if that helps! Please let us know if you have any questions. Microsoft Support is available for further assistance if the issue continues.

    Best regards Deeksha
