You mentioned that you had problems saving your legal assignments on your Mac, and Word got stuck. I found some similar users who had similar experiences, and it seems that this is not an isolated problem.
Before I start to provide you with a fix, I need to ask you for some necessary information:
- Did the problem happen suddenly or did it happen after you made any changes to Office or your Mac system?
- Does the problem happen to all Office applications? For example: Excel, PowerPoint.
- What is your system version and the version of the Word application that has the problem?
I suggest you try some preliminary troubleshooting solutions below:
- Force quit Word: Please refer to: How to force an app to quit on your Mac - Apple Support.
- Enter Word in Mac safe mode: Shut down your Mac. Press and hold the Power button until you see the Startup Options window. Select the startup disk. Press and hold the Shift key, and then click Continue in Safe Mode. Release the Shift key. Log in with your account credentials. - Check for updates: Sometimes software problems may be caused by the operating system not being updated to the latest version. Please visit "Software Update" in "System Preferences" to ensure that your software version is up to date.
