Subscript shortcut key does not work on Word

I purchased a Macbook Air M3 (2024) from Japan, so the keyboard layout has hiragana (Japanese). I am trying to use the shortcut key for subscript (command + shift + - ) on Word, but this only works as a superscript (should be command + shift + ;). I have contacted Apple regarding this, but they suggested asking Microsoft as it may be a compatibility issue with Mac and Microsoft apps.

I have tried toggling the system preferences to create an original shortcut key, but it still only works as a superscript, not a subscript.

I have no knowledge of the Japanese keyboard but this may help:

Try using the macOS Character Viewer. **** Pressing key combinations reveals what the are assigned to.

However, in Word you also can go to Tools> Customize Keyboard to see what the assignments are.

I believe you may have been speaking with someone from Apple who just didn't know what else to tell you 🙂. The keyboard shortcuts work fine provided all is fully updated:

    • Subscript — Shift+Command+➖/▁
    • Superscript — Shift+Command+=/✚
