How to change back default font for smybols in Word to Cambria Math

The font for Symbols has changed for my document:

The font for Symbols (via math autocorrection or "Symbols" button) used to be Cambria Math. Today (out of the blue) it's been changed to MS Mincho.

I have never used this font. And it's changed the format of my document. E.g. the arrows are longer and now my paragraphs are all wonky. This is all quite annoying.

I have have tried to uninstall MS Mincho. But it's not listed under fonts in my laptop settings. I haven't found a way to change it in Word itself aswell. Since the standard font for math equation is still Cambria math. (which makes more confusing???!)

It's really just the symbols that are affected.

Does anyone have any tricks to change it back?

(Also I can't find anything on whether MS has changed the standard font (like with Aptos) or if it's just happening in my Word.

I found a way for evading the problem.

Apparently, I saved the short cuts under "regular text". Somehow this then changed to MS Mincho. Now I assigned them directly to Cambria Math.

However I would still like to know, how to solve the autoformatting problem. Because I don't want this to happen in every single document.

    Dear respected,

Thanks for sharing back with us.

So in case the font was changed accidentally and to prevent this from happening next time, you can drag the current doc template to desktop and then Word will generate a brand new one automatically where all settings will be default including the font of symbols will be the default Cambria Math.

    Best Regards,

    Hello

    Thank you for your reply.

I have checked these suggested points:

    • yes, unfortunately this issue is across all of my word documents
    • I have the most recent version of office
    • I have done the quick repair, sadly it didn't solve the problem.

It seems to be an error with autoformatting. When I enter the symbol via the symbols tab under my selected font, it doesn't change. However when I apply a short cut or use the math autocorrection it uses the MS Mincho font.

Is there no way for me to uninstall this font?

Dear respected,Good day! Thanks for posting in our community. We went through your post carefully and deployed some tests with the latest version of Word desktop app 2405 where we add some equations, and the font of symbols and numbers are still Cambria Math. Please feel free to correct me if I made any misunderstanding.

As we failed to reproduce it on our machines, to offer you the correct guide to resolve this, could you please share us some more details as troubleshooting steps below?

    1. If the same issue happens on new documents or other existing ones?
    2. What is the current version of Word app on your PC?

    1. If it persists, it would also worth a try to have a quick repair where Word will make itself a check and fixing in the backend.

See: About Office: What version of Office am I using? - Microsoft Support We appreciate your kind patience and understanding that sometime the initial reply may not resolve the concern immediately or there may have some misunderstanding about your scenario, but we would like to hear the updates from your side and let's figure out the further suggestions. We'll be here for you to wait for your updates.
