Hi,
I have 2 VM's running as reserved instance with F4s series size, I want to convert them to different size.
would like to know the procedure of it.
as I dont know what was the pricing back then when these F4s instances were purchased, is it safe to say that current pricing listed in azure calculator for F4s is constant if yes, then it would help me to analyze costing difference between my current size and new size more precisely.

Hi @Rob Nicholson ,
you current B12ms reserved instance (RI) is covering 12 vCPUs. The B16ms is a 16 vCPU VM SKU.
The reserved instance for B12ms (12 vCPUs) is applied to the B16ms VM / Pricing will be 12vCPUs by RI and additional 4 vCPUs are charged by PAYG.
If you buy another RI for B4ms (4 vCPU) you should be fine and the B16ms is covered by the RIs (1x B12ms and 1x B 4ms).

the prices of VM SKUs may be different now. It depends, among other things, on the time at which the reservations were purchased.
If you are talking about "resize the VMs": If you choose the same VM series you don't "loose" the existing reserved instances.

I've the same doubt, what @Rob Nicholson is having. series changes means B to A,D,F ? or within B series we can resize? can anyone elaborate?

Can I just clarify this - my client had a B12ms VM on reserved instance for a year. We re-sized mid-term to B16ms. I can still see the existing reservation for b12ms and the discount is still applied. So I assume the uplift in cost between B12ms and B16ms is getting charged under the non-reservation invoice which has gone up. When the reservation reaches full term, I assume we'll be able to buy another reservation at the higher size?
@Rob Nicholson From my experience working with Azure Reservations, I’ve learned that reserved instances apply only to VMs within the same compute family. For example, if a reservation is purchased for a B12ms SKU, it will automatically apply to any VM of the same family that is equal to or smaller than 12 vCPUs. If a workload requires more vCPUs beyond the reserved size, the additional capacity is billed at pay‑as‑you‑go rates. Reservations do not extend across different VM families each family requires its own reservation.
