Can't log in to my Microsoft account due to two-step verification

Due to unfortunate circumstances, I find myself in a chicken and egg scenario.

Was laid off from work and my personal email authenticator for outlook was on my company phone. the work phone# is also on the authenticator list.

Even though my personal number is listed on the account I cannot recover my personal outlook account neither can I manage my family plan. this is going on since 4 march

  1. When signing in im asked for the number in the authenticator app - this is tied to a phone I no longer have.
  2. The "I dont have access to the authenticator app" takes me to a selection to the phone number I no longer have.
  3. The "try another method" takes me to my old work email that is disconnected.

My MS recovery account was merged into my main account. however, I do have my gmail information that is listed on the account.

My personal cell is listed on the account however this is not been picked up by the authenticator app

I have sent repeated tries for recovery only to get this response.

It looks like you just used the Microsoft account recovery form (https://account.live.com/acsr?mkt=en-US) to request a password reset for "@outlook.com." Because you've turned on two-step verification for your account, we ignore these requests but wanted to let you know.

Phone calls are dropped when they find out it is a personal account.

This account IS NOT the account im trying to recover.

Really need the authenticator removed/keys reset so i can login with password and link it to my personal phone thats already on the account.

    I have a similar issue.

Had my small business MS365 account authenticator on my phone, but lost the phone on vacation. Unable to get into admin portal to disable MFA because I don't have the authenticator app setup, and unlike google authenticator MS decided not to offer a way to back the authenticator data up...

Tried to call MS Support and although I haven't changed phone number, I never paired a phone number with my account, and hence MS wont accept a call from an unregistered phone number.

So I'm stuck. Unable to talk to MS Support, unable to login, unable to do anything. FFS.

Microsoft testers should be fired, as this scenario cant be that rare, but its not catered for.

Hi, I am a Microsoft user just like yourself and I will try my best to help you as much as I can today.

option 1: Use the Account Recovery Form Go to the Microsoft account recovery page: https://account.live.com/acsr Enter your blocked email address and an alternate email address where you can be contacted. Follow the instructions to provide as much information as possible to verify your identity.

Gmail Information: Mention that your Gmail information is listed on the account. Personal Cell: Mention that your personal cell is listed on the account, but not recognized by the Authenticator app. Microsoft will review your information and contact you via the alternate email address provided with further instructions.

Have you contacted Microsoft directly and spoken to an advisor through chat?

See if that helps! Please let us know if you have any questions. Microsoft Support is available for further assistance if the issue continues.

    Best regards Deeksha

It sounds like you're facing a challenging situation with your Microsoft account and two-step verification. Unfortunately, this can be a complex issue to resolve, but here are some steps you can try:

Contact Microsoft Support: Reach out to Microsoft Support directly and explain your situation in detail. They may be able to assist you in recovering access to your account or resetting your two-step verification settings.

Provide Alternate Verification: Since you have access to your Gmail information, try using that as an alternate verification method. Microsoft might be able to send a verification code to your Gmail account instead of using the authenticator app or your old phone number.

Verification Questions: During the account recovery process, Microsoft might ask you security questions or for details about your account history. Make sure you provide as much accurate information as possible to prove your identity.

Patience and Persistence: Account recovery processes can sometimes take time, especially in complex situations like yours. Be patient and persistent in your attempts to regain access to your account.

Best of luck in resolving your issue!

Hi thank you for the response

I have been doing this since the 4 March, current connected devices finally reached the token time limit and i cannot even access anything.

there seems to be no one who can access the security side due to the authenticator app blocking all recovery attempts.

tried Chat support and email support
