How do I insert the line from comment to highlighted text in word? I have selected All Markup, but no line appears

I have MS 365. In old Word, a line would connect comment to highlighted text in the word document. In MS365, I cannot enable a line. Was this taken away?

I have selected All Markup, comments are shown on the right. An icon is shown in the right margin of the document, but no line.

In print preview, the line is shown.

The line you are describing will only display if you have the older, classic comments interface:

The default view in newer versions of Word is the so-called modern comments:

If your version supports it, you can switch to the older interface by clearing the "Enable modern comments" option at File > Options > General. Restart Word after you have changed the option.

According to Microsoft, the ability to switch between the newer and the older interface will be removed in the future (it hasn't been specified when the option will be removed).

I wish we could have this back as well, the new UI is confusing and annoying.

The lines will display in a printout and also when you convert your document to a PDF, if that helps.

For the moment, you can revert to the classic comments, if you have the subscription version of Office.

    Hi Parth P,

None of the recommendations worked. I did update Office 365, no change.

Thank you for trying to help.

    Hello there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with Microsoft Word and hope the following solutions can assist you:

1)Check Display Settings: Ensure that the "Show Markup" option is enabled and set to "All Markup." This option is usually found in the Tracking or Review tab in the ribbon.

2)Show Comments: Confirm that comments are indeed visible in the document. You mentioned that comments are shown on the right, which indicates they are present in the document.

3)Adjust View Settings: Try changing the zoom level or adjusting the view settings in Word. Sometimes, the display of comment lines may be affected by the zoom level or display settings.

4)Update Word: Make sure that your Microsoft Word application is up to date. Updates help with bug fixes and performance related issues.

5)Toggle the display options: For comments and markup. Turn off the "Show Markup" option, close and reopen the document, then turn it back on to see if it refreshes the display.

6)Print Layout View: Check the document in Print Layout view to see if the comment lines are visible there. Sometimes, certain display features may be better viewed in Print Layout mode.

I hope the following solutions help fix your issue and should you have any further problems/concerns please do not hesitate to contact me again.

    Thanks,

    Parth P.
