Office "Account Error" and "Can't display online services"

Hi everyone,

I'm encountering several issues with my Office applications, specifically Word and Excel. Up until now, I’ve been using OneDrive for cloud storage without any problems.

For your information, I use a personal Office account, but my subscription is tied to my university account for licensing purposes.

Unfortunately, I can’t upload images of the errors, but here are the details:

  1. When I open an Excel file I’m working on, I receive the following error message:
    • "SIGN IN REQUIRED: We can't upload or download your changes because your cached credentials have expired."
    • The prompt asks me to "Sign in," but the error persists even after attempting to sign in.
  2. On my account page in Excel, I see these two additional error messages:
    • "Account Error: There are problems with your account. To fix them, please sign in again."
    • "CAN'T DISPLAY ONLINE SERVICES: Sorry, we had a server issue and can't display your connected services. Please try again later."

I have already attempted some common fixes, such as deleting Windows credentials, but the issues remain unresolved.

Any advice or guidance on how to fix these errors would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Sorry, I have made a mistake. If you run the command I post previously (I have revised it), maybe it will prompt not recognized as external or internal command. Please add a quotation mark at the start instead.

    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe"/update user updatetoversion=16.0.17531.20120

Hi, please kindly try reverting Office version and see whether it works. Do it by type command below in CMD with administrator privilege

    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe"/update user updatetoversion=16.0.17531.20120

    Same issue.

Account error: There are problems with your account. To fix them, please sign in again.

Can't display online services: Sorry, we had a server issue and can't display your connected services. Please try again.

I have deleted and reinstalled Microsoft 365 several times. My apps work on several other laptops. OneDrive syncs files correctly. I can only open files via OneDrive in the browser and the file opens up in the browser. However, the non-app version has limited capabilities.

    Hi Kolya,

Thanks for reaching out here. Have tried add a new local administrator account and try signing in Office in that new account? Sometimes it can solve such problem. If the problem vanishes in the new account, you can try moving your original account to the new one (via the steps in the same link above).
