Good morning,

I am very annoyed by the failure to systematically install RDS services on a newly installed Windows Server 2019 Essentials.

I tried to find information alone on the net, but after 3 hours of research and fruitless tests, I don't know what to do.

I followed this tutorial among others:

https://glennopedia.com/2016/04/02/how-to-properly-deploy-remote-desktop-services-on-a-single-domain-joined-server/

I also found this info without knowing how to implement it and test if this can be the solution

Hi, for my part, I encountered the problem on a Windows Server 2019.

In general, this is a problem with the rights of the accounts used during deployment and which do not have sufficient access to open a session as a service.

I solved the problem by adding NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES in the user rights parameter "log on as a service" of the GPO that applies to my RDS server as recommended by Microsoft in KB2832204

I have another server under WSE2016 and on this one everything went smooth.

If you have any info on the subject, I'm interested, Thank you.

    Hi,

Did you tried this installation on Standard edition? How many users you are planning to use this RDP on Win2019 essentials?

Seems like installation issue, provide complete logs from the server.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

No it's on Essentials, very few RDP users, less than 5.

I'm not a Fan of MS server , and not with a deep knowledge for its admin.

But for sure , if setting up an MS server needs to be a senior Certified engineer to be able to fight with every problem coming then I give up directly.

I choose a 2019 essentials because i thought it was the same experience as 2016 essentials, but it's not at all.

On 2019 there's no more WSEE, so roles needs to be added manually, then RDS is not possible to run on same PC as AD so you need 2 comptuters to get RDS ready for few users.....

Well perhaps i'm wrong but for now nothing gave me good feeling.
