Commercial Use of Microsoft Designer

Recently, I have been utilizing Microsoft Designer to make AI creations that incorporate the platform's built-in fonts, elements, and icons.

These creations are intended for inclusion in an upcoming book publication. I seek clarity on whether this usage complies with Microsoft legal and licensing requirements.

I have two main concerns:

  1. Is it permissible to use creations made with Microsoft Designer in this manner?
  2. Should this be allowed, would I need to provide specific credit to Microsoft Designer in the book?

(For example, by labeling each photo with "This creation was made with Microsoft Designer.")

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Dear Yan Ting Lai,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Based on the information you have shared, I understand that you seem to want to know some information related to the commercial use of Microsoft Designer, I understand how you feel and rest assured that I will help you with the answer.**Q1: Is it permissible to use creations made by Microsoft Designer in this way?*****Yes, you are allowed to use Microsoft Designer creations in this way.*****Q2: If it is allowed, do I need to give Microsoft Designer specific credit in the book? (For example, by labelling each photograph "This creation was made by Microsoft Designer.")*****According to the Code of Conduct, although commercial use is not explicitly prohibited by Designer's image creators, it is important to exercise caution and ensure that your use is in accordance with the terms provided. It is recommended that you can use watermarks for images generated by Microsoft Designer.***For instructions on some of the commercial uses of Microsoft Designer you can also refer to some of the answers in this thread below: Are images generated by Microsoft Designer available for commercial - Microsoft CommunityYou may also want to refer to some of the protocol descriptions in these two links: Microsoft Terms of Use | Microsoft LegalFrequently Asked Questions about Microsoft Designer - Microsoft SupportWe hope that the responses above have given you some clarity and, if they have been helpful, we hope that you can help us improve the support experience by clicking "Yes" or "No" and help others with similar issues to find a solution.Thank you for your understanding and support.

Thank you Isabella for your valuable answer!

in the link you provided, Are images generated by Microsoft Designer available for commercial - Microsoft Community , they are talking about two different programs :

1- Image Creator from Designer: it does not explicitly prohibit commercial use of the generated images. https://www.bing.com/images/create
2- Designer for Web Image Generator: The Terms of Use for Designer (including Image Generator) state that it is for personal use only and not for use in the course of trade or commerce. https://designer.microsoft.com/image-creator

I just want to verify your first answer and to which program it corresponds.

When you said : " Yes, you are allowed to use Microsoft Designer creations in this way.", were you referring to images generated by this program : https://designer.microsoft.com/image-creator  ?

Because in the designer.microsoft.com terms, It is said in 1.b. that "You agree that your use of Designer is for personal use only and not for use in the course of trade or commerce."
Even in the image that you shared, it is said: "Designer is licensed for personal, non-commercial use with your Microsoft account".
The term “Commercial use” here is vague and need further explanation. (is commercial use here referring to the account or to the image generated themselves?)

Finally, considering the 1.b. paragraph above about commercial use of designer.microsoft.com, what I understood is that I can use this program's generated images inside a book that I want to sell. Is that correct ? Can you confirm this?
Also, if I generate images using designer.microsoft.com and I protect them with a copyright deposit, can I put them inside a book that I want to sell without a watermark on images?

    Thank you.
