Nearly all of my PowerPoints open up in presentation mode, with no way to edit, on my iPad. However, those same PPT's open in edit mode on my other devices. I have tried reinstalling the office 365 app and the PowerPoint app to go avail. Other files, like Word or Excel, work fine.

Yes, that worked. After one chat and three phone calls, the Microsoft technicians finally determined that it was an update to Box that caused the problems.

    It's been a long time. Could you please provide the following information?

    • A screenshot of the file selection screen before you opened the PPT file;
    • A screenshot of the screen after you opened the PPT file;

    In the meantime, I have opened a private message channel for you, please send me your PPT and we will test it on our iPad tester to see if the same problem exists.

    ①    You can send private message through the Messages link at the top right of the page.  ②    Check your sent PM by going to My Profile, and then selecting View private messages on the left pane of your profile page.

    Thanks again for your patience. Looking forward to your reply.

    Almost every file – word, PPT, excel – goes into that PDF mode, even though the suffixes are .pptx, .xlsx, and .docx.

    Only X on the screen closes the file.

    I can open the exact same file normally on my desktop and my laptop, just not the iPad..

    Hello Eric Fenrich, Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

    Based on your description, I need to determine the following information:

    • The first is that your iPad goes directly into presentation mode regardless of opening any PowerPoint file?
    • Do you have an x button in the upper left corner of the PowerPoint file when you open it in your iPad? If so, click on it;
    • Please check the file you open on iPad that will go to presentation mode, is the file name .PPSX.

    If your file has a .PPSX extension, .ppsx is a slide presentation file format for MicroSoft PowerPoint in the Office 2007 family of software from Microsoft. ppsx is always a presentation that opens in Slide Show view (not Normal view). This is the crux of the problem.

    The solution is to save it as .pptx format on your computer and open it on your iPad.

    Hope this helps. Best Regards,Arthur - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
