hey,
i have a school account, with my one drive info on it. my account asks me to sign in every couple of days, and I am getting this error message:
“sync error this notebook is in read-only mode. to take notes again sign in to sync the notebook or you can discard it”

i need to re-enter my info (manually, since i can't seem to autofill the OneNote app with my email account as its not used with Safari or Chrome, and i cant find how to refill automatically my info outside of the web browsers). is there a fix for this bug?
thanks,
yair

I don't wish to sound mean, but I was under the impression from the OneNote sync failure error code: 0xE00009C8 bb0ur - Microsoft Community post that you guys acknowledged this is a Microsoft issue and not an end-user issue. Your support teams told us that service would be restored within 2 hours, and we are on day six of OneNote being effectively unusable for what appears to be hundreds of people (which is bound to increase once the holidays are over). Can you please provide us with an update of what's being done to restore service, and what the current ETAs are?

I'm currently using an Outlook.com account on a Windows machine. That said, you're telling us that after six days of radio silence and not a single peep from Microsoft's Microsoft 365 Status (@MSFT365Status) / X, Service Status (office.com), or Admin centers that you guys don't have a single update on what's going on? You do understand you have MS Support techs giving out random restoration times in your support chats, right?

    Hi Cullen,

Sorry for the inconvenience that happened to you.

I go through that thread carefully. Since Yair is using OneNote for Mac and that sync issue occurs in OneNote for Windows, I don't think Yair is experiencing the same problem. In addition, I have used my Work or school account to test this on my end and all notebooks sync well. In this case, may I know if you are using a personal account (Hotmail, Live, or Outlook.com) or a Work or school account (******@schooldomain.com)? Because based on my searches, this issue seems to affect users who are using personal accounts.

I understand the inconvenience this has caused you. Regarding your question, I would really like to provide an exact timeframe for the fix, but due to our team's focus on issues related Work or school accounts in this "For Business" category, we don't have access to check the progress related to server incidents for personal users.

    Appreciate your patience and understanding

    Sincerely,

    Hi Yair,

Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

Per your description, I think this is a problem caused by a credential conflict, not a bug. In this case, I suggest you try the following steps, and then check again.

    1. Firstly, please sync all your changes to the server. You need to manually sign into your account in OneNote for Mac, right-click the notebook and select "Sync This Notebook". Make sure that you don't see any sync error or can see the latest changes in this notebook in OneNote for Web (www.onenote.com).
    2. You can try one of the following methods to remove credentials.

    a. If you used your account or the product key to activate Office before (you can activate Office by yourself), I suggest you quit all Office applications, download and run the license removal tool. This tool removes all local account credentials. After that, run OneNote and sign into your account to reactivate Office. Check if the error message still occurs.

    b. If your Office applications are activated by your IT (you cannot activate Office by yourself), you can try the following steps.

In OneNote for Mac,  remove all connected services and log out of your account. In OneNote, press Command + O, in the dialog, click Open on the left sidebar, Manage Storage Accounts, click x to remove all connected services. After that, log out of your account.

After that, close and quit all Office applications.

Go to the Finder> Applications> Utilities> Keychain Access. Select login on the left sidebar, select "All Items", delete all items with Microsoft and Office in the name, such as "com.microsoft.oneauth…..", Microsoft Office Identities Cache, etc.

    Restart OneNote and check again.

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,
