Office 2013 now missing after agreeing to the new 'OneNote for Windows' that replaces 'OneNote for Windows 10'

Hi,

I have been using 'OneNote for Windows 10' for some time and without any problems. This is on a Windows 10 computer.

In the last couple of weeks I've been getting a message asking me to update to 'OneNote for Windows'. The detail behind the message explained that 'OneNote for Windows 10' was now going out of date and would not be supported from late in 2025.

Today I accepted this option.

However, what has happened is that by accepting this, my PC appears to have had Office 2013 removed at the same time. This is a full copy of Office 2013 that I bought directly from Mircosoft. A copy that I own legitimately.

I didn't agree to the removal of this software. This was not mentioned before pressed to accept the new version of OneNote.

How can I access and work on my documents now that Office 2013 has been removed? I have nearly 30 years of office documents that I can no longer open.

The computer is now asking me to pay a subscription for Office 365, to be able to use Office Apps.

I WANT TO USE THE LEGITIMATE COPY OF OFFICE 2013 THAT I HAVE BEEN USING FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS.

I am extremely disappointed by what has happened today.

I've now spent over an hour on this. This is extremely frustrating.

I still have the original installation DVD ROM - am I still able to use this to put Office 2013 back on the computer?

Hi, sorry for the delayed reply.

Thanks for explaining what happened. I did not knowingly agree to the removal of the Office 2013 Software, but potentially that detail was hidden in the small print. There certainly wasn't a big clear message on the screen explaining what would happen.

But there was a big push in the messaging about needing to stop using 'OneNote for Windows 10' and to switch to 'OneNote for Windows'. I followed the advice that I was being given and I am frustrated by the outcome.

I've not attempted to reinstall Office 2013, I thought that might cause even more problems. However, I guess that I am fortunate that I still have Office 2003 on the computer, and so I've gone back to using that instead.

It amazes me how good Office 2003 still is, twenty years later!

    Hi,

Many thanks for offering to help.

I cannot find O2013 in https://office.com/myaccount, should it be there? If so, in what section of myaccount?

Within the folder where it was installed there is now only 10 files and one folder, and no .exe files. (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15)

In programs and features it is no longer there. So repair is not an option.

I am convinced that the installation of 'OneNote for Windows' as recommended by the message in 'OneNote for Windows 10' has uninstalled Office 2013.

The OneNote for Windows installation was successful. So I now have both 'OneNote for Windows' and 'OneNote for Windows 10' installed.

It looks like one workaround is to use the free version of Office 365 that is available online.

When I have time, I will attempt to reinstall Office 2013 and I will advise if it was successful.

I'm sure you OKed a message announcing the uninstallation of Office 2013.

This is necessary because Office 2013 is an MSI-type installation, incompatible with the C2R-type installation of Office 365.

You can use OneNote from Office for free https://www.onenote.com/download

But it is also incompatible with Office 2013.

Any update does not uninstall Office, any version

Is your O2013 associated with an MS Account? https://office.com/myaccount

    Run the basic Office repair

Restart the PC, once fully loaded, repair Office,> Apps & Features>Select Office your version>Modify /Repair, once the repair completes re-test (Quick repair)

Win search for Word > Resulting shortcut > Rt click > Pin to task bar > start Word from that shortcut (hover mouse over the shortcut gives access to the 10 most recent docs)
