Why don't you fix the the snap to object problem that has been going on for years.

The absence of a method to disable snap to object has plagued Power Point for years. Please take the problem seriously and please update your online instructions if there really is a method. If you can't or won't do that then please be straight forward about it. If there is a way to disable it in the latest version of MS 365, then why don't you take 10 min to explain it. I have been working with PPT for decades and frankly from one version to the next it really has not improved in that time, if anything is has become more chaotic of byzantine.. If this were the first product of a new company it definitely would not fly.

PowerPoint for Windows has a Grid and Guides dialog box that can be opened that can be opened from the View menu in the group that has the Ruler, Gridlines and Guides options. In that dialog is a checkbox called Display smart guides when shapes are aligned. Unchecking that prevents the object snap you see. Unfortunately, they have never added that dialog to PowerPoint for Mac, so there is no way to turn off that feature.

The solution is described earlier in this thread. The snapping only occurs if Smart Guides are enabled & the user tries to drag an object into close proximity to another. Either disable Smart Guides or drag the object near to where yu want it then nudge it into place using the arrow keys.

The dots you are referring to are connecting points but in my experience they appear only when dragging the handle at the end of a line connector to adjust its length. If holding the Command key while using the Arrow keys the length can be adjusted to any proximity without snapping to the connecting point on a shape.

It's in the Grid & Guides dialog in Mac PPt as well:

But it merely disables the Smart Guides just like deselecting them in the View> Grid & Guides submenu.

I'm not aware of a snap to object feature in the program. If Smart Guides are enabled it may seem to give that impression but that feature can be disabled in the View> Grid & Guides menu. To avoid the effect without disabling the feature you can place the one object close to the other then use the arrow keys to nudge the object into position.

There is a Snap to Grid feature which can be turned on/off in the View> Grid & Guides menu. Additional settings for the Grid are available by selecting Grid Options in that same submenu.

If that isn't what you need please provide a detailed description of the behavior you're interpreting as snap to object.
