Its driving me crazy. For years I have had a simple way of saving and a couple of weeks ago, it automatically started doing the second image automatically. I have not touched or changed anything.

Anyone, can you help, I am not using word half as much because it does not make me comfortable. I thought I was hacked for a while there.

Any suggestions I will try.

Thanks in advance for taking time to answer this question.

If you want to prevent your PC from synchronizing with OneDrive, unlink the PC using the steps in the article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/turn-off-disable-or-uninstall-onedrive-f32a17ce-3336-40fe-9c38-6efb09f944b0. The screen shot below is from the article.

You need to change the "Default local file location" to a folder on your computer that is not synced to OneDrive. Note that in Windows 11, the Documents folder is within the OneDrive folder and will be synced. You have to move the Documents folder out of the OneDrive folder to be able to save to it directly without syncing.

    Dear Rachel Wolany,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.   Based on the information you've shared, I understand that you seem to be experiencing some trouble with documents being saved as d.docs.live.net in Word, and I do understand your frustration, and I'll do my best to help you.Firstly, I would like to know more about it to help you:

    • Do you currently have the autosave option turned on? Are you saving files to OneDrive automatically?
    • When you access the file on the web side of OneDrive, does it work? onedrive.live.com
    • What version of OneDrive are you currently using? You can click on File->Account-> on the right hand side there will be information about your version, there are some issues that occur with specific versions. Before confirming the above information with you, you can also try the following troubleshooting solutions:***1. Uncheck the ‘Show other save locations, even if you may need to log in’ option:***You can click File->Options->Save->Uncheck ‘Show other save locations, even if you may need to log in’:2. Save your files to a local computer, the saved files you are shown seem to be related to OneDrive, to troubleshoot this you can: Click File->Options->Save->Select Save to computer by default and uncheck Save to Word in the cloud automatically by default.3. The OneDrive error ‘Connecting to d.docs.live.net’ when opening a Microsoft Office file may be triggered by data in the cache folder of the Microsoft Office Upload Centre. So, as a starting point, you can try clearing the cache folder:-Click Windows Key + S, type Microsoft Upload Center, and then click Search Results.- Go to Settings and click Delete Cache Files.Alternatively, try clearing the Credential Manager and check the results. :1. Go to Start -> Control Panel.2. Go to User Accounts and Home Security > and click User Accounts.3. In the left pane, click Manage your credentials. Now, look for the Live Account ID and password (for OneDrive) in the Credentials Manager and delete it and restart your computer.Open a Word or Excel application and try to sign in to OneDrive and check if you can access the document.Go to File > Accounts and add a OneDrive account. If this still doesn't work, could you try re-downloading another version of Word, which you can refer to in the Office version history:  Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date) - Office release notes | Microsoft LearnWe look forward to your further updates and hope that together we can resolve your issue. We have been.Thank you for your understanding and support.

    Dear Rachel Wolany,

Thank you very much for your patience in trying and more replies.

    • I would like to follow up with you to find out if you have OneDrive's backup feature turned on? Refer to the link:Back up your folders with OneDrive - Microsoft Support
    • Is this the folder where you previously saved your desktop documents? If you have backup turned on, it is recommended that you pause it, as it may be related to OneDrive's backup.
    • What is your path to this file? I look forward to your further updates and we can explore more features together.

    Hi Isabella,

Thank you so much for such a detailed response.  I did not want to skim through your answer so it took me until today to sit down and go through each point.

My autosave is currently off.  When you asked that question I immediately went and played with the button.  It won’t remain on autosave.  When I move to switch on and take the cursor off the button it immediately switches to off, which is odd, as I can remember seeing it on approximately a month ago.

When I go to onedrive.live.com all my work is there, but that is not how I work.  I have been with Microsoft for years now and I don’t want to change my habits because something has changed.

Please see below the version of One Drive I have.  I was not sure what information you were after so I took a snip of the information.  I hope this gives you enough information to work with.  Let me know if this is not enough and I will try to play some more.

I tried the other options and they did not change the behaviour of Word, so I used the snip tool and provided the save area.

I will wait for anything else you can share with me, as I really want to fix this as I am not doing half as much as I would on Word and am now considering going with Googledocs and a month ago I would never have considered another package  as Microsoft has been my goto for years, I love the product and am comfortable.  So please help me rectify this.  Its driving me crazy.

Once again thanks for such a detailed response.  I really appreciate the effort you put in.
