How to Restore Lost Sharepoint Files

Hi There,

I had a SharePoint that had all my work files on it. I would go into the SharePoint, press sync, and OneDrive would make sure all my files synced with my File Explorer and SharePoint and OneDrive, etc. If something ever accidentally got deleted, I would simply search the recycling bin in OneDrive, and restore it.

Pretty basic right? I'm a normal human being and not a Microsoft Power User. Where these things are distinct from one another or connected, I'm not entirely sure. I just trust Microsoft's cloud services to take care of it. SharePoint. OneDrive. Different apps, but all connected. Kinda like Google with Gmail, Google Drive, etc. You get the picture.

So this morning, I sign on to Microsoft Planner, and notice a task plan is still in effect that my team and I no longer use. I wanted to create a new plan, so I delete the old plan. Microsoft tells me I don't have permissions to delete the plan, and I shrug my shoulders and move on with my life.

Cut to 1 hour later and I look at my File Explorer, OneDrive, Recycling bin and all my files are GONE. LIKE THEY NEVER EXISTED. YEARS OF WORK—GONE.

Can someone please explain to me how I can get these files back?

Dear Northwood_099, Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. I am happy to help youBased on your description, I understand that the files in your OneDrive sync folder are gone. Normally, OneDrive doesn't automatically delete your files.First of all, please try to visit the Office portal, log in to your account and click OneDrive to see if your file exists in OneDrive on the web side. If your file exists on the web side, you can click setting-sync this OneDrive. If you do not see your file in OneDrive on the web side, please check whether your file exists in the OneDrive recycle bin and the second recycle bin, if any. You can also recover these files:Restore deleted files or folders in OneDrive - Microsoft SupportRestore deleted items from the site collection recycle bin  - Microsoft Support(This document describes the steps for accessing the second recycle bin)If you check the recycle bin and still don't see your files, you can also try restoring your OneDrive to an earlier point in time to see if it helps you get your files back: Restore your OneDrive - Microsoft SupportFor files in SharePoint, you can go directly to the SharePoint document library to see if your file exists in the document library on the web side, and if so, you can re-sync it to your local computer. If you don't see any file data on the web and you still can't recover your data after trying the suggestions above, please contact me again and I will investigate it for you. Thanks for your cooperation.Sincerely,Tin | Microsoft Community Moderator
