Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
By the way you can save a .docx to a .doc file using save as. Then you can use Office 2003 to open it as .doc file.

I have 2 versions of Office 2003 and 2021.
But when I right click to open the file it just says to open in "Word", but I need to know if it is "Word 2003" or "Word 2021" that is opening it.
I know to open .docx in 2021 and I prefer to open .doc with 2003. The same with excel, powerpoint, access etc.
Where in regedit can I describe the file open in Office 11 or Office 16.
P.S. I use Windows 10 as it is stable and not flaky like 11 or 12.

Hi TM, you can set default apps as per Stefan. Or you can do what I have setup to open in .doc Word. With Windows 10>Click on Windows Icon>Find>Microsoft Office in list of Apps>Click on down arrow>Right click on Word>More>Pin to Taskbar>Then you can open your document from>File>Open
I have not found a way to use>Open with to achieve what you want to do, but in any case you can try>Right click>Open with>Choose another App>Right hand side>click on slider to go to bottom>More App>Right hand side slider go to bottom>Look for another App on this PC. You can try going to the 2003 folder on C Drive.
But the best way is to pin Word 2003 or other 2003 apps to Start or taskbar as suggested above Then you will get:
When I right click and go to open with. It just displays 'Microsoft Word' and 'Microsoft Word'. But the icon is displaying 2003 version on both.
As you have noticed, Office applications tend to "compete" over file associations when you have more than one version installed on the same Windows machine.
The article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-default-programs-in-windows-e5d82cad-17d1-c53b-3505-f10a32e1894d#ID0EDD=Windows_10 describes how to set the default program per file type, but the applications themselves may change the settings, unfortunately.
