Are you saying that the problem is that the Layout Options pop-up is taking up space in your document when editing?

In that case, you can close it by clicking the X in the upper right corner, or you can dismiss it by pressing the ESC key on your keyboard.

Under File>Options>Advanced>Cut, copy, and paste, from the Insert/paste pictures as dropdown, select the layout option that you want to be used as the default for each image that you paste.

Be aware that moving images is a very common cause of document corruption as a result of mis-matched XML tag errors and I recommend inserting pictures with the layout set so that they are in-line with text.

Is there any way I can email you some photos to show you exactly the issue I am having?

    Hi,Michael Parker6

Noting that you marked No on my previous reply, and I also see that Doug Robbins - MVP, Office Applications and Services (Word) responded to your question, it is indeed possible to set the default layout option when inserting an image to be set to Embedded or some other layout option via this method. However, there is no way for you to turn this feature off directly. In the meantime, I'm interested in your question and if you find a better alternative, feel free to share it with me.

    Hi,Michael Parker6

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that your question is about wanting to turn off the Layout Options feature for images on Word.

Before answering your question, I need to confirm with you that it is the Layout Options feature at the location indicated by the arrow in the picture? Just in case i misunderstood your question.

If so, you should know that the Layout Options feature cannot be turned off completely. In Microsoft Word, Layout Options is a feature used to adjust the layout and position of embedded objects (such as pictures, charts, and so on) in a document to ensure that graphics and objects in a document work in harmony with text and other elements.

Although you can't turn off the Layout options directly, you can try different Layout options settings, and in the pop-up menu, select different Layout options to adjust the position and wrapping of the images.

In the meantime, here are some alternatives you can refer to:

    • If you need a more complex layout, you can insert a text box and then put the image into the text box. In this way, maybe you can move and adjust the position of the picture more flexibly. Lock position:
    • If you want to keep the picture in a fixed position in the document, you can right-click on the picture, select “Size and Position”, and then in the “Position” tab, check the “Lock Mark”.

If you have any other questions or need further help, please feel free to let me know! Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to hearing from you.
