I have lost my word & PDF icons on all my docs on desktop for some reason. shows okay within folders. I have tried the repair option but still cant get the icon back. Any suggestions?

Hi,in the Windows search box type>Default Apps>Click on it>Click on>Reset all default apps. If that does not work choose one of the other options.
Try clearing and rebuilding the Windows icon cache by following the appropriate one of these articles:

Tried these options but no luck!!
When I copy a word file from a folder to desktop it shows the word icon.
For some reason when I go and open the file later it saves without the icon.

Yes doing what you advise I see the word icon as per below
However, The word docs I have on Desktop on my PC show blank without the logo as do the pdf documents.
The PDF icon is as below:
I am not sure what is happening here. Help would be most welcome.
Win search for Word > Resulting shortcut > Rt click > Pin to task bar > start Word from that shortcut (hover mouse over the shortcut gives access to the 10 most recent docs)
What pdf shortcut?
