Continuous Repair Notice - Microsoft 365

Hi everyone,

I purchased MS 365 Apps from Microsoft on a yearly subscription basis. I continuously get a request to repair it and then the apps close. When I do an online repair it goes for hours and hours and never repairs it. Even a quick repair is not solving the issue. I know others of you have faced this and I am hoping to get resolution to this issue (quite frustrating). The message reads this "We're sorry but (Outlook, Excel, Word, or whichever app I try to open) has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly." It goes on to say that "You will need to be closed as a result. Would you like for us to repair now?

When I hit repair now the app closes and nothing happens. I have tried the Microsoft Recovery Tool and that does not work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and that does not work. I asked Copilot and these are the answers I received (I am giving you this in case you provide one of these solutions), and they did not work. Here is what Copilot said:

"I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with Outlook 365 (Classic). Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Start Outlook in Safe Mode:
    • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type Outlook.exe /safe and press Enter.
    • This will start Outlook without any add-ins, which might be causing the issue.
  2. Repair Office Applications:
    • Right-click the Start button and select Settings.
    • Go to Apps and find Microsoft Office.
    • Click on Modify and select Online Repair. Follow the instructions to complete the repair process.
  3. Create a New Outlook Profile:
    • Open the Control Panel and change the view to Small icons or Large icons.
    • Click on Mail (Microsoft Outlook).
    • In the Mail Setup window, click Show Profiles.
    • Click Add, name the new profile, and enter your email address.
    • When starting Outlook, select the new profile and sign in with your credentials.
  4. Check Windows Credential Manager:

I hope someone can give me a permanent solution to this madness. I have never run into this before.

Thanks.

Bryant

    Stefan,

Yes, I did reach out to ZA support and they resolved the issue. The fix was to uninstall ZA, reboot the computer, run the ZA clean tool, reboot the computer again, and then reinstall ZA. The support guy said that the ZA software was probably corrupt, and indeed that fixed it.

One final note, I want to thank you and Carlos for assisting me with a fix. I will keep it in my head and share the knowledge should anyone I run into have similar issues.

    Best.

    Bryant

I don't know if Zone Alarm has a support site, but you should let the software creator know that their software doesn't work properly with Office.

Thank you for your insight. I was able to narrow it down to my program Zone Alarm. However, what is baffling is the fact I have the same programs on my laptop, with the exception of my video cards, and it works fine with Zone Alarm. I don't understand why my desktop doesn't like it. To use my MS Apps with ZA, I have to go into Task Manager, disable ZA, and reboot my computer, and it works fine. At the end of the day, I have to enable ZA and reboot my computer so I can be protected overnight, and the process starts over in the AM.

Do I need to create another ticket for this issue or do you have any suggestions? It's quite perplexing! Let me know because I know there is an answer and I will find it. I love ZA. Very strong firewall protection. I just don't understand why one can work harmoniously with ZA and the other cannot.

    Thank you.

    Bryant
