How to turn off auto captions on figures in Word 365?

Word 365 automatically suggests captions for pictures. They are totally unsuitable for my scientific microscope micrographs. How does one shut off or disable this feature?

Thanks in advance.

Word has an option to generate Alt text automatically. You can turn it off via File > Options > Accessibility: "Automatically generate alt text for me."

This suggests that you are seeing something else. It doesn't necessarily involve Word's Caption facility at all, I suppose.

Could you upload a screen shot which illustrates what you see when the caption is added?

On the References tab, click Insert Caption (in the Captions group). Word displays the Caption dialog box.

    Click the AutoCaption button.

In the AutoCaption dialog box, clear all the check marks for various objects. Confirm with OK.

    Stefan,

The tool is Alt text. I can't send you a screen shot because as soon as I click on screen shot the Alt text suggestion disappears, so I suppose it will not show in the inserted photo in any case, just annoying clutter :). I didn't see anywhere under the Alt Text button to shut off the feature.

    Regards

    Stefan,

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, the reply doesn't answer the issue on my Lenovo Thinkpad. Autocaption has all software types unchecked and still Word produces (useless for my purposes) captions. So there must be another switch somewhere?

    Regards

    Bruce
