I own a full standalone version of Office 2021 Pro, and can not upgrade onedrive?

Hello,

I have a full version of Office 2021 Professional (purchased and licensed as legal on my Microsoft account. My issue is, I have had to purchase a damn office 365 basic annual plan on top of all of that, just to get 100Gb of online backup! And, when I try to upgrade, JUST my OneDrive storage, I am told on MicroSuks onedrive site, that my 'ADITIONAL' purchase of office 365 basic (already an additional $19 per a year, giving me nothing that I do not already own, except 100Gb of online backup)is not good enough, to allow me to upgrade JUST my OneDrive storage...

"Basic and Free accounts are not eligible for additional storage plans."

Where does Microsoft get off, making someone purchase what they already own outright on an annual plan?!

Are you Telling me, that after paying out for a digital copy for standalone purposes, so my data does not all have to be editted and mucked around with via an online version of your software, that I also have to upgrade to a bloody premium or family office 365 for ANOTHER $59AUD per year? Where is the FAIR option for those of us who have already purchased the software outright not on your damn subscription traps?!

And now, you are releasing Office 2024 (that I note can also be purchased as standalone home or professsional versions), and I take it these will have this same OneDrive catch!

Is there a fix for this? Just to upgrade the OneDrive storage without having to purchase a damn premium Office 365 plan?

I OWN OFFICE PROFESSSIONAL2021, and that gives me more software than that Premium plan with Accesss and Publisher! I DO NOT NEED YOUR ONLINE OFFICE, JUS BACKUP ONLINE STORAGE DAMN IT!

    Hello,

OneDrive could be a backup software, but only if you had enough storage to backup an entire system.

As Palcouk said, OneDrive isn't included in Office 365 because Office 365 is for one computer as a one-time purchase. You get 5 GB of free data on plans that aren't on Microsoft 365, so to Microsoft, it's as if you're not paying for OneDrive (because technically you aren't), and that your OneDrive account is a free plan.

OneDrive is only available for free, basic, or premium/personal and family subscriptions for Microsoft 365 because Microsoft is trying to entice you into buying a plan that can hold more storage than free.

If you don't want to buy Office 2024, subscribe to Microsoft 365 you would probably spend the same amount of money for every new major edition of Office as you would by subscribing to Microsoft 365.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Palcuk,

Your answer is not a very good one. If the standalone versions do not include OneDrive, then why is it installed with my legal version of Office 2021 Professional along with the rest of the office programs in the Professsional stand alone version? Also, if OneDrive is NOT a backup, then why does it have the option to "Keep offlinefiles ", or "Save space by uploading"? I think it is absolutely fair that the 'backup' service is via subscription, my argument is, why is it only available for upgrade WITH an additional purchase of software already owned, instead of an option WITHOUT office 365 like other online storage providers?

Due to the information you have supplied, I am looking at alternatives, and tell Microsucks (in not so many words) just where they can put their OneDrive 'upgrade' option, and I will opt for a competitors 'Lifetime' 1Tb plan for the same damn price as a 1 year OneDrive ''Premium' 1TB plan' And not be caught with the 365 'online storage' issues thanks! So, can they PLEASE stop spamming me with offers to upgrade my 'OneDrive' BASIC subscription, or invite me to try 365 for free, on nearly every other site I go to on the internet?!

You are succesfully telling me (and anyone who reads this post) that all of their office 365 generated office files are not 'backed up' but are 'created' and stored online not on their own PC? I am aware this is supposed to be to 'save disk space' locally, but be real, it is a backup service, most businesses (or anyone using the documents regularly) require an offline local document, that is ''backed up' offsite for recovery purposes, why else would you upgrade to a larger storage capacity EXCEPT to 'backup files' you do not use as often as locally stored ones?

Someone is not making 'logical' sense in regards to my question!

I still do not have an answer WHY is the OneDrive option ONLY available to "Premium" or "Family" subscriptions of Office 365 and not Stand alone Office software owners for the OneDrive storage option as an alternative seperate subscription (at a reasonable price that EXCLUDES EXTRA CHARGES for software already owned, and registered with a Microsoft account, that logs on each time the computer starts)? Is that not proof enough of legitimacy?

Only O365 includes OneDrive, and its a subscription product.

OneDrive as a component of O365 is not a backup, its the cloud location of all MS data. nothing is stored on the local PC

Other Office standalone products do not include OneDrive
