MS Forms - Can the Excel file that holds all MS Forms responses be overwritten manually?

If someone goes into the Excel file that is synced with MS Forms responses, and makes changes manually in the Excel, are these changes permanent? Or will the original MS Form responses get reinstated into the Excel in the next sync?

If changes are permanent, is there a way we can retrieve back the original form responses?

Hi Amanda_C1,

Thank you for your questions regarding the MS Forms and Excel integration.

Yes, any changes you make directly in the Excel file will remain intact and will not be overwritten by future syncs. However, if you wish to revert to the original form responses, you can do so by clicking "Resync to a new workbook" from the Forms response page. This will create a new workbook with the original data. See my testing results for your reference.

  1. I created a form and fill 1 answer to it.

Opening the workbook, I manually made some changes.

Then I closed the workbook and submitted the 2nd answer. The changes did not disappear.

I then went to the forms response page and clicked "disconnect and sync to a new workbook".

A new workbook is created with correct responses.

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or need assistance!

Best regards,

Sophia
