    Update:

This is, however, possible to action in the Classic Outlook desktop app. It seems to me that the new Outlook is simply missing this option, and it is essentially a software limitation that must be addressed by Microsoft.

    UDear Sai Kumar9,

    Good day!

Thank you for replying to the Microsoft Community. We are glad to assist.

In Outlook, when dealing with Distribution Groups (DGs) in an organizational environment like Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft 365, the ability to add or modify owners generally depends on your permissions.

    • Owners: Typically, distribution group owners can manage the membership of the group, which includes adding or removing members. However, adding new owners might not always be within their scope of permissions.
    • Admins: In many cases, adding or modifying the list of owners for a distribution group usually requires administrative privileges. This is because changing ownership can affect the group's management and permissions, and such changes are often controlled at the admin level to ensure proper oversight and security.

While you might be able to manage members within the DG as an owner, adding or changing other owners typically requires admin-level permissions. If you need to add a new owner, you might need to contact your IT admin or the person responsible for managing distribution groups in your organization.

Thank you very much for your understanding!

We look forward to hearing from you! Thank you for your time. Have a good day!

    Hello,

Just wanted to confirm that if we need to add a new owner to the Distribution Group, do we need to be an admin?

I am an owner to one of the DG and I thought we should be able to add other owners or members to that DG.

    Regards,

    Sai
