Microsoft Word on iMac will not activate

I purchased Microsoft Word Home for one I Mac desktop. The purchase shows up on my account, I installed it, but when I open the Microsoft App, it says I need a subscription. I don't want 365, just use my purchase. When I clink on the activate button at the bottom of the screen, it says "Unable to activate." Sends me to a link, which then tells me that Microsoft can't find my subscription. I click on subscriptions and there is my purchase showing again and I go through the same routine. I have spend hours with Apple Care Support and they can't figure it out. Please help. Bill

Dear Bill,

I noticed that you purchased the product from another third party website (I would like to suggest that you can purchase the product regarding Office from Microsoft's official website afterwards, this is because there might be some unknown issues with the applications obtained from other third party websites). Purchasing from Microsoft's official website will guarantee you after-sales issues.

If the feedback link given to you gives you some clear direction, I hope you can click ‘Yes’ to help other users in the community to notice the feedback channel more quickly and to help make the developers aware of the users' functionality needs.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation, I would appreciate it.

Best regards

    Hi Isabella,

It is me again. Want to let you know that I successfully installed Microsoft Word on my iMac 3 quite by accident. If it is helpful to any future issues, this is what I did,

Setting- Login Items & Extensions. There was list of Microsoft Extensions ( Microsoft Update, OfficeLicenseHelper and One Drive) I turned them all off. Then I reinstalled Microsoft Word and presto-changeo, it worked. Can't believe it was that simple after all the trouble we went through.

    Bill

    Dear William Noonan,

Thank you for your reply and feedback.

I understand that you can not use Word after several attempts to the mood, because I have encountered the same problem as you, I think we can slowly overcome this problem, I also very much hope that we can solve your problem, after hearing your description, we recommend that you try the following methods again, may be able to solve your problem, we must firmly believe that there is no problem that can not be solved:

    1. In this article there are more detailed steps (including the deletion of some files), we recommend that you can refer to: Troubleshoot Office for Mac issues by completely uninstalling before you reinstall - Microsoft Support

Afterwards in your account to re-download Word to try.

    1. Add Outlook alias reactivation.

You can reactivate your Outlook by adding an Outlook alias and setting it as the primary alias, using the previous password. An alias is an additional email address associated with your Outlook.com account. An alias uses the same inbox, contact list, and account settings as the primary email address.

Refer to the link: Add or remove an email alias in Outlook.com - Microsoft Support

Sincerely suggest you can try the above, hopefully we can work together to resolve this issue, you can always contact me if there are any progress and issues, or if you still want to contact the online support staff to get a refund.

    Wish you all the best.

    Best regards

Isbella, I wish I could say that this solved the problem, but it didn't. First, the uninstall link yield a error message from Apple saying, "Can't open the application Setup ProdOfficeScrub because Micosoft Word application is not supported by MAC OS.

I proceed to remove the license. That was successful, so following your instructions, I reinstalled the Word from my account. The installation was successful, but when I opened Word, I get a message "We've confirmed your purchase, but in order to activate you need to download a version of Word 2021 . l click on link. Next message says "We can't find your subscription. Did you use another account to make a purchase. You are signed in as w***@gorge.net." That is my only account with Microsoft. I click on the button that says, "Subscriptions." It takes me to my account, where I see the purchase and the option to install. I am back where it all started and repeated the same failed process. I am despairing of ever getting this on the computer and wondering how I can get a refund. If there is anything else I can do, I'd appreciate the help.. Bill

    Dear William Noonan,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that after purchasing Word you are prompted to subscribe to Microsoft 365 when you open the application, I understand when you are experiencing problems and will do my best to help you.

I would like to confirm with you that you are viewing the product information in the Services & Subscriptions screen of your Microsoft account? You can confirm this by clicking the link below and logging into your Microsoft account:  Microsoft account | Services and Subscriptions

The above error may occur if you have purchased Word but have installed Microsoft 365, so I would like to do some troubleshooting with you first:

You can first cleanly uninstall the current Word program and clear the licence, then reinstall to try:

    1. Clean uninstallation:
Uninstallation through the uninstallation support tool: You can install the uninstallation from the link below, it will take a few minutes to download and install the programme. After installation, the ‘Uninstall Microsoft Product’ window will open.

    https://outlookdiagnostics.azureedge.net/sarasetup/SetupProd_OffScrub.exe

    2. Remove the licence: How to remove Office license files on a Mac - Microsoft Support

    remove tool: https://officecdn-microsoft-com.akamaized.net/pr/C1297A47-86C4-4C1F-97FA-950631F94777/MacAutoupdate/Microsoft_Office_License_Removal_2.7.pkg

    3. Reinstall:

If you can see the Word product in the Services & Subscriptions screen of your Microsoft account, you can install it directly under your account:  Microsoft account | Services and Subscriptions

Sincerely hope that you can understand, because the initial information may not allow us to clearly understand the depth of the problem, if you need further support, you are welcome to contact us at any time.

Thank you for your understanding and wish you all the best.

    Best regards
