So as the title says, I have several excel workbooks that I use for financial modeling purposes. I came to them today and for whatever reason out of nowhere they all have strike through on the cells. And it's not just a few cells. It's like 90 % of my filled in cells now have strike through. The weird part is when I go into formatting it shows strike through as turned off. When I toggle it on and off nothing happens. I'm at my wit's end. I cannot find any help on the internet for this problem and I have spent over 100s of hours on my models. It's not feasible for me to throw them in the trash and restart but they are hardly readable with this problem. Can someone please help me fix this annoying issue ?

My colleague found the solution, hope this helps!

Go to the ribbon on the top and look for Formulas > Calculation Options > uncheck Format Stale Values

FYI this does not seem to work if you have macros which are turning on/off the automatic/manual calculation.
In this case I was able to resolve by using the application-level toggle located here:
File >> Options >> Formulas >> Error checking rules >> Cells containing stale values

I do not see the option you describe under Formulas > Calculation Options. I only see Automatic, Partial and Manual.

I agree. What the hell is going on with Microsoft and Excel? All this **** they embed drags the software down and is ****. Wastes everyone's time. How many hours are lost due to these seemingly unnecessary and annoying features. Who thinks these things up. Tell the developers to spend their time to improve the efficiency and quality of the software, Microsoft is so heavy with unnecessary stuff. The login procedures are time consuming. The software crashes too often. If only MAC's Excel's version matched Window's configuration.

So glad I found this answer here. Other sites gave me the run around.

What in the world is the purpose of Format Stale Values? I deal with large file that are always on manual calculate so of course there are stale values - until I do a calculate or regenerative calculate. My other question is why did it just show up now? I've had this file for a long time.
