Issues with OneNote UI After Recent Update

Hi All,

I am currently using Microsoft 365 (Version 16.018129.20116), and I've noticed that the OneNote application has recently been updated.

This update has changed the user interface, resulting in a large gap between the Sections and the Search bar.

The interface in a Notebook now looks something like this:

While I could overlook this, the large gap has hidden 2-3 Sections in almost every Notebook I have.

My Windows display settings remain unchanged, and adjusting the Windows zoom level does not resolve the issue—the gap persists regardless of whether it's 100% or 175%.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thank you!

    Hello,greycommotion

    Welcome to the Microsoft community!

I have realized that your issue about the UI of your OneNote.

Your current Microsoft 365 is the latest version, the version number is already 2410.

I've detected that the current OneNote UI is indeed tweaked and has no options for modification or customization.

As far as for the current situation, there are only two temporary solutions, one is to display the notebook catalog on the left side, and the other is to roll back the Office version.

You can choose to set the navigation bar by clicking File > Options > Display in the upper left corner. Not sure it's possible to modify it as expected after the UI has changed though.

Search for "CMD" in the search box in the bottom left corner and run the command prompt as administrator.

    cd %programfiles% \Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun

Press Enter when you are done typing and type on the next line

    For example: Oct 15, 2024, version 2409 (Build 18025.20160)

    Officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.18025.20160

    Hi Ryan,

    Thank you for your response.

Unfortunately, I’m unable to find the Display option you mentioned. The option "Display in the upper left corner" isn't there.

However, I understand (as you mentioned) that the UI settings may have changed after the update, which is fine.

I will proceed with the suggested rollback. I appreciate your help!

    Best regards!
