Take a look at your MFA settings. I stumbled across this while working with one of my users who does not use Authenticator (does not have a smart phone) after some recent MFA changes. It was failing to register the device (new byod Win11Pro laptop) with Azure and download an app protection policy because it was attempting to redirect to the MFA setup so the user could setup a supported method, but wasn't able to browse there because the device wasn't getting registered & downloading the app protection profile which in turn caused it to fail the conditional access policy required a registered device and app protection policy when using a browser to access company resources.

Hope this helps someone else banging their head against the wall trying to figure out what should be a VERY simple process is failing.

I have exactly the same issue.

I enter my email address and password, go through MFA, and then I'm presented with this message.

My 'workaround' (I'm the owner of the account which may help, don't know), if to click the 'use different account'. This then presents me with my own, already logged in, email address, which then takes me through to the area requested. Sometimes I need to repeat that cycle a couple of times.

Can't see anything in any of the admin centres on 365 that would be causing the bug. It's really annoying.

    Dear Oram Phil,

    Greetings!
Thanks for reaching out to this community.

Based on your description, I understand your query about "Your organization needs more information to keep your account secure".

As far as I am concerned, it seems you are using a M365 work/school account and this message usually comes up when security defaults or Multi-Factor Authentication is enabled in your organization or for your account. This is controlled by the M365 admin of your organization. And as you are asked to verify a number, it seems your organization requires you to sign in using Microsoft Authenticator.

If you don't wish to see this message or use Authenticator to sign in, you may reach out to your organization or school M365/IT admin to check this with you. If you are not sure who is your admin, can refer this How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.

For more information, please kindly refer to Providing a default level of security in Microsoft Entra ID - Microsoft Entra | Microsoft Learn.

Meanwhile, if you are using a Microsoft (personal account) ending with outlook.com/live.com/hotmail.com, please reply back to us, so we can involve personal account team for further assistance.

Thank you in advance for your understanding! Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated. I hope all the best!
