How do I removed languages from the Office Display Language area?

I open up Microsoft 365 and sometimes the document will highlight words that are spell correctly in English and the program will try to use other dictionaries to check the document. This is very frustrating. Other languages have been added and I can't seem to delete them.

In Word, language is a character property. The quickest fix will be to just select all the text in your document and re-apply your flavor of English via the Language dialog box (Review tab > Language group > Language > Set Proofing Language). In the dialog box, choose "Selected text," specify the appropriate language, click to clear the boxes for "Do not check spelling or grammar" and "Detect language automatically" and finally click OK (specifically do NOT click Set As Default, because this is about modifying the selection).

For everything on proofing in Word, see Suzanne S. Barnhill's article at http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/MasterSpellCheck.htm.

This is not about which languages are available for Office display, or proofing. This is about the text in the document.

See Proofing Language Keeps Changing - Solutions - How can I keep my proofing language from changing?.

Turn off the option to automatically detect language. Word is not good at this, in my opinion.

Try selecting all the text and setting the proofing language to the language that should apply. You can click the language by clicking on it in the Status Bar at the bottom of the Word window.

The proofing language attribute is akin to font formatting. It can come into a document with pasted text and can be surprising..

When you install additional language support in Office, that is, when you install so-called language accessory packs, they are added as a new entry for Office in the Installed Apps section of Windows Settings.

Start the Settings apps and go to Apps > Installed Apps.

Which product names do you see?

For example, on my PC, I have a business subscription (365 apps for business) and I have installed US English and Swedish language support. This means that I see two entries: one for English and one for Swedish.

If I wanted to get rid of one language version (proofing and display language), I would have to choose the uninstall option for the corresponding product.

This is to change the Proofing language. But how do we remove an installed Display Language. There is no Remove button for that.

    Hi Fabiola,

This may be caused by checking spelling and grammar in other languages. You can reset it to the language you want. Here's the method:

Click or tap where you're going to add text, or select the text that you want to mark as a different language, and then do one of the following:

    1. On the Review tab select Language > Language Preferences.
    2. Under Office authoring languages and proofing, select the language you want to use.
    3. Select OK.

    Or

    1. On the Review tab select Language > Set Proofing Language.
    2. Select the language you want to use.
    3. Select OK.

    Best Regards,

    Support
