How do I disable auto crop when taking pictures in a note.

When I take a photo within a note , the photo is automatically cropped. This is a new “feature” it used to just let me take a picture then offers an option to edit. When I searched for solutions , it’s stated that there is an option to select photo or document I do not see that. I use one notes app on my iPhone from my 365 office account.

I have this same issue. I have used One Note for a year now...and there must have been an update where something changed in regards to taking a photo and inserting it in your notes.

    I have an Iphone 12 - IOS Version 18.0.1

I also use One Note on my PC - but I do not take pictures from there. I only do it while using One Note on my phone.

The issue is like so. I'll insert photos as I go here. I type notes and then need to take a picture of an issue to report to a supervisor. I type the note and then tap the camera icon so I can take a picture to insert into the note.

After you click the photo icon it let's you choose between Insert Picture from Library or Take Picture. I choose Take Picture.

The camera screen opens up to view what I am looking at, and while I'm taking the photo these white camera frame edges show up centered around something in the photo. It chooses something centrally located in the photo that it "thinks" you're taking a picture of. Like this

I don't want to take a picture of just the door - but the entire room - like you see in the whole picture right now.

Once you hit the shutter button to take the photo. You end up with a photo that automatically has that same area of the photo that had those white camera frame edges around it selected and now it has a white box around it with the dots in the four corners.

If you do not move those dots to the original edges of your photo (EVERY SINGLE TIME you take a photo you have to do this!) , it automatically crops your entire image down to what was framed in the original photo by the white frame lines. See the next photo

See how everything else is now gone. Except here's the issue - i didn't want it to crop like that. I wanted everything that was in the original view when i took the picture. If you do not manually move the dots in the four corners, this is what you end up with.

I used to be able to snap a picture and move on, but now it's a five step process to take a photo, move each dot in the corners all the way to the edges, and then hit finish.

It's way more time consuming when out in the field trying to quickly take notes that include photos. How can we change it back to the way it used to be????

    George,

Carrie's description is spot-on what I am experiencing too. Something has changed with OneNote. Just started happening within a month or so ago and it happens on both my iPad and iPhone.

If you are not seeing the word "Import" with the big circle as in the pics below, then there is something different about what you are doing or your configuration and we just need to figure out what that is. Need you to stick with this until we figure it out.

    1. Have you confirmed with the developers that there was no recent change made to how OneNote inserts pics takes from within OneNote?
    2. Is there a difference between 365 and stand-alone OneNote? (I am a 365 subscriber both for work and home.)

    My environment:

    iPhone SE

    iOS 17.6.1

    OneNote ver. 16.89

    iPad 9th Gen

    iOS 17.6.1

    OneNote ver. 16.89

    Linc,

Any luck with this? Very frustrating. It is now making me adjust the frame for every pic I try to take inside OneNote. If it doesn't get fixed, I may have to use something else. Shame. OneNote was working so well for me.

I clicked camera icon in the pop up tool bar. chose take a photo. And the camera comes on. There are no options other than the camera button or import See below

When I searched the problem the answer was change rod from document to photo but as above there is no option to do this. There was one in prior app versions. Again this problem started in the past month or so. I assume it’s from a change in the app version

Current IOS version 17.7. Updated last week from prior version but issue occurred before and is still there. The OneNote app version 16.89. Which looks to be the latest. I don’t have OneNote app version update history I will try deleting app and reinstalling

  6. I suggest you reinstall OneNote and check the results. Before reinstalling, please make sure that all notebooks have been synced well.

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.
