If the installation software for your fax machine or fax-enabled printer includes a fax app, that's probably the easiest way to send a document. Because each manufacturer may include proprietary software, you will have to use the instructions that come with the program.

Within Word, there's nothing built in, but you can click the Get Add-ins button on the File menu and use the Search box in the resulting dialog. That shows a number of add-ins that can send faxes via the Internet. Most of them include the notation "Additional purchase may be required", which usually means that you will have to pay. Try searching the Internet with your browser to find out more about ones that look interesting.

Finally, you can simply search the Internet with an expression such as "fax program document" for programs that send any file, including Word documents. You'll find a number of review articles that recommend the best of those programs, such as https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-send-or-receive-a-fax-online .
