Whenever I open the insert --> equation tab, the word document starts loading and blacks out. The only way to get back on my document is opening task manager and ending the word task then launching it again. Is there a viable solution for this problem?

It's a long shot, but the problem may be the printer driver (or lack of one). What printer do you have selected as the Windows default (or the active printer in Word)? Word must be able to see a printer driver (preferably locally installed even for a network printer) in order to lay out the document, and this can affect many features.

    Dear Peter,

    Thanks for your updates.

Could you try running Word in Safe Mode via the steps in Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC - Microsoft Support to see whether the issue also happens? If no, the issue may be related to the add-in. You may check whether there are some updates from the add-in provider. If yes, uninstall it and re-install it to see the result.

You can also temporarily remove the add-in to see whether the issue persists.

Based on your reply, the issue occurs with all Word files. Could you close all Office applications, open Run, type %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates, move the Normal.dotm file out, restart the Word application and create a new file to see the outcome.

Welcome to share any updates at your convenience if you need further help on this issue.

Thanks for your effort and time.

    Sincerely

    Hey Cliff!
It happens with all the word files. I tried to do the online repair but it did not work.

The only add-in in my word is BlueBeam (pdf reader/editor application). I used word on this laptop before having this add-in and I don't remember having this issue. How can I fix it with keeping the add-in? If not, I will remove it.

Thank you for your effort and time. Here is a picture of the account page.

    Dear Peter,

May I know whether the issue occurs suddenly? If yes, what did you do before the issue occurred?

Does the Word application crash only when you insert the equation? If you use other features, will the Word application crash?

As Online Repair may fix some general issues, I suggest you go to Control Panel>Programs>right-click on the Office applications' icon>Change>check whether there is an Online Repair option. If yes, run it, restart the computer and do a test again to see and let us know the result.

May I know whether there are some add-ins installed on your Word application? If you run Word in Safe Mode via the steps in Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC - Microsoft Support, what's the outcome?

Does the issue occur with a specific file?

If it is convenient, I suggest you close all Office applications, open Run, type %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates, move the Normal.dotm file out, restart the Word application and create a new file to see the outcome.

Moreover, please click on File>Account and upload a full screenshot of the Account page in the Word application for our reference.

Note: Remove any private information before uploading the screenshots.

Welcome to share any updates at your convenience if you need further help on this issue.

Thanks for your effort and time.

    Sincerely
