Hello guys,

I have read in Microsoft Terms of licenses is that Core Licenses Windows Server can reassignment after 90 days into new Server right ?

i bought 1 license Windows Server 16 Cores for my old server 16 Cores

If i reassign core licenses into new Server that have lager than 16 Cores. Example my new Server is 24 Cores so i have to buy new 24 Cores equal to 12 * Windows Server 2 Core License Pack OR I can buy additional cores to cover all physical Cores. That i only need to buy more 4 * Windows server 2 Core license Pack right ?

I want to know that we can re-use my 16 Cores license pack to new server ? By that we only buy four 2-packs more ?

Assuming a retail channel license then yes no problem.

    Hi,

I'd be happy to help you out with your question. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

According to Microsoft's licensing resources, one core license must be assigned for each physical core on the server, and additional cores can then be licensed in increments of two or 16. Therefore, if your new server has 24 cores, you will need to purchase a minimum of 24 core licenses. You can either buy twelve 2-core license packs or one 16-core license pack and two 4-core license packs to cover all physical cores. Some sources mention that each physical server needs to be licensed with a minimum of 16 core licenses (eight 2-packs or one 16-pack). However, it is important to review the specific licensing terms and agreements for your organization to ensure compliance.

If you have a Windows Server 16-core license and want to reassign it to a new server with more than 16 cores, you will need to purchase additional licenses.
