I wrote several articles in Word in 1984, that now appear on my current PC dated 2007. How do I convert them into a current MS 365 format?

FYI, there's a batch converter here on GMayor's website

Batch converter for Word 97-2003 DOC format and Works WPS format to DOCX/DOCM - An add-in for Word 2010 and later) to batch convert Word 97-2003 DOC format and Works WPS format documents to Word DOCX format (or in the case of DOC files with macros to DOTM format) from hard drive folders and sub-folders.

    It's a specialty addin from here: https://www.gmayor.com/Document_Batch_Converter.htm

GMayor has also written a more general "Batch" addin here:

Apply processes to a batch of Word documents https://www.gmayor.com/document_batch_processes.htm

Both of the responses you've received are correct.

Word 2007 .docx files open fine and can be edited in recent versions of Word. However, they will be in compatibility mode and not able to use any features of Word introduced after Word 2008.

If you do want to convert them, I suggest first saving a copy.

Unless they're the older .doc format and you want to convert them, there is no need to do so; Office 365 can handle them just fine. Office 2007 .docx and .docm files need no conversion.

When converting the older .doc format, documents:

    • containing macros will need to be saved in the .docm format; otherwise the macros will be lost.

    • not containing macros should be saved in the .docx format.
