How do I access the Gantt chart?

I had the same problem. The source is that Microsoft has MS Project and Planner. These look like two different softwares as they both have a web and Teams interface but they are in many ways the same.

If you want to make a Gantt chart then you first need a premium license or now referred to as Project Plan 1 (or higher subscription ). This gives you access to both Planner and MS Project premium features. When you create a project you can make a Basic Plan or a Premium Plan so make sure you select the right category. Currently there is functionality in the Basic Plan that isn’t in the Premium Plan, and vice versa -check feature comparison online. Note only the Premium Plan has the Gantt chart feature.

If you want to access your premium plan on Teams you must download the Microsoft (MS) Project app. Currently in the Teams apps you can access basic and premium plans on MS Project but only basic plans on Planner. You can access all plans in your web browser on either MS Project or Planner. The two look near identical in the web browser interface.

Why Microsoft have both Planner and MS Project I don’t know. All I know is there is functionality in basic that is useful to syncing tasks with outlook and loop as well as some other functionality. So I use both apps in Teams.

Thanks for the help. This is such a great example of Microsoft "microsofting", ie. making things obscure and unintuitive.

    Hi David,

I was able to solve it the first time by adding the planner application to Microsoft Teams and then I could create a new plan by selecting the premium type. It seems that Microsoft has done some changes to the planner UI when you access it through the web, and if you click on create a new plan, you can now see the premium option too.

I hope this helps you too,

    Luis

    Dear All,

The Planner UI has been changed.

Based on the article Frequently asked questions about Microsoft Planner - Microsoft Support, some updates may come to the later version of Planner.

Thank you for your effort and time.

    Sincerely
