How to repair Office when it doesn't show in Installed Apps, etc.

At least two computers at my workplace don't have Office (or its components) showing in the Installed Apps. I was looking to try a repair of Excel - or the full Office installation - but without being able to use the options provided in the apps list, I don't know how I would go about that.

Does anyone have any idea how this can be done? Instructions for repairing all seem to rely on them actually showing up as installed.

Thanks,

Cris

    Dear Cris,

    Thanks for detailed information.

The fact that "Microsoft 365 Apps for business" was installed yesterday could indeed be due to updates. Sometimes, updates can cause the installation date to change. Regarding the "Change" button not working, Please ensure you have administrative rights on the computer. Sometimes, the "Change" button won't work if you don't have the necessary permissions. However, If the Office installation is corrupted, the "Change" button might not function properly. In this case, you might need to use the Office Repair Tool or reinstall Office.

Please let me know if you are having any issue while re-installing the office apps by downloading the Office installer from the Microsoft website and run it to reinstall Office.

Have a great day and take care! 😊

    Sincerely,

    Hi Naren,

    Thanks for your help.

I took a look at Virus & threat protection and it states that no actions are needed:

I had a look at Programs and Features and I believe 'Microsoft 365 Apps for business' is our installation of what used to be called Office, but when I click on 'Change' nothing happens. I'm slightly thrown off by the fact that it says it was installed yesterday, but perhaps there were updates?

It this likely to be a bug, or is it common for the Change button to not cause anything to happen?

    Thanks,

    Cris

    Dear Cris,

Good day! Thank you for contacting the Microsoft Community. We are here to assist you

There might be an issue with application shortcuts being deleted. A Microsoft Defender update could fix this. Go to "Virus & threat protection" in the Start menu, select "Protection updates," and then click "Check for updates"

If still Office not showing up in the Installed Apps list. Please follow below steps for online repair Using Control Panel:

    1. Open the Control Panel on your computer.
    2. Navigate to "Programs" and then "Programs and Features."
    3. Look for Microsoft Office in the list of installed programs. If you find it, select it and click "Change" or "Modify."
    4. Choose "Quick Repair" or "Online Repair" and follow the on-screen instructions.

Kindly note that sometimes, having multiple versions of Office installed can cause conflicts. In the Control Panel please check if there are multiple versions of Office installed. If so, uninstall the older or unwanted versions.

If the above methods don't work, you might need to reinstall Office. First, uninstall any remnants of Office from your computer. Download the Office installer from the Microsoft website and run it to reinstall Office.

Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, if you have any issue in above steps or your scenario is different, please let us know, we can work together to find a solution.  If it possible please provide complete screenshots.

Have a great day and take care! 😊
