Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hello Thorsten Werner1,
Welcome to the Microsoft Community.
I understand that you want to activate your Office applications on an earlier version of Mac OS. As you know, Apple devices typically have better application compatibility with the latest three system versions. For Mac, these are currently MacOS 13, 14, and 15.
To use Office on MacOS 12.7, you need to download an earlier version of the Office application to match the system version. For information on compatibility with earlier versions of Mac OS, you can refer to this article: Upgrade macOS to continue receiving Microsoft 365 and Office for Mac updates - Microsoft Support
This link provides the installer for older versions of Office. For your MacOS 12.7 Monterey, you need to download the August 2024 update (16.88): Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn
Before installing, it is recommended to run the license removal tool to delete any existing Office licenses to avoid interference during activation: How to remove Office license files on a Mac - Microsoft Support
