Microsoft 365 and Office updates with Office 2019

I purchased Microsoft Office 2019 products some years back and have been using it to date; however, I noticed that in the Account info it states "Microsoft 365 and Office Updates" is turned on. I didn't think Office 2019 included any updates? I did notice a difference in how Office products look recently. . .so I'm assuming updates are happening? The license however, does still state Office 2019:

I believe when I upgraded to Windows 10, there may have been a free version of Microsoft 365 Office that loaded as well, since I do now have a Microsoft 365 (Office) in my apps. However, when I click on it, it says "Sorry we ran into a problem loading this app" An Error code 1001 also shows, along with some information/codes.

I am perfectly happy with Microsoft Office 2019 and do not want to upgrade. If 2019 is being updated, I am fine with that. Can I delete the Microsoft 365 (Office) app?

Thank you,

Carol Wiegmann

Just following up on my last email regarding Windows Defender vs Windows Security.

    Thank you,

    Carol

Windows Security is a built-in app that protects your device from security threats, while Microsoft Defender is a standalone app that offers additional features:

    Windows Security

A free app that comes with Windows 10 and 11. It includes Microsoft Defender Antivirus, which protects against viruses, ransomware, and other malware. Windows Security also offers account protection, firewall and network protection, and app and browser control.

    Microsoft Defender

A standalone app that offers additional features like identity theft protection, VPN, and a centralized dashboard. It's available for Windows, Mac, iPhone, and Android devices.

Windows Security and Microsoft Defender are complementary apps that work together to provide comprehensive security. You can download the latest updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus in the Windows Security app

The only other security measure I have is Malwarebytes Free: Free Antivirus 2024 | 100% Free & Easy Install

It is well worth having and to run it now and again and when you just think maybe there is a problem

Hi Carol, please do not worry, it is Microsoft that went nutty. They hate perpetual versions, so they decided to get rid of as many references to it as possible. Your Office 2019 is perfectly safe. All updates for perpetual version of Office are called:

'Microsoft 365 and Office' See if you go to: https://account.microsoft.com/services to install your Office. See mine: (I have Office Home and Business 2019)

Even a perpetual license, such as Office 2019, will receive security updates, for as long as that version/license is supported by Microsoft (see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/microsoft-office-2019).

Subscription versions will also receive feature updates (which perpetual licenses do not).
