M365 Business basic user Capacity

Hi,

I am a CSP partner of Microsoft. One of my customers is using Microsoft 365 Business Basic licenses for 300 users and 250 licenses for Exchange Online (Plan 1). Now he wants to reduce the cost.

Can I suggest and provide Microsoft 365 Business Basic (No Team) licenses on behalf of EOP Plan 1? Can I renew 300 M365 Business Basic licenses and give 250 M365 Business Basic (No Team) on the same Tenant ID?

If yes, please help with how this can be possible?

I have found updated advisory from Microsoft in one of Microsoft's FAQs

Our Microsoft 365 for business base plans (charged per user) are designed for organizations with up to 300 users. Organizations with more than 300 users should consider subscribing to Microsoft 365 for enterprise plans. We reserve the right to enforce a tenant limit of 300 provisioned licenses across the family of business plans, in which case we will provide advance notice and further guidance. In the meantime, we are treating customers that have provisioned up to 300 licenses of each individual business plan (Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium) as compliant with this 300-seat limit. This applies even if they have provisioned more than 300 total licenses across the family of business plans.

So its up to a customer and reseller's mutual interpretation and decision on how to proceed.

    Kerry Chen,

"Based on your further description, yes the customer can use 300 licenses of Microsoft 365 Business Basic and 250 licenses of Microsoft 365 Business Basic (No Teams) on the same tenant ID. Regarding the SKUs, they are different. The primary difference is that the Microsoft 365 Business Basic (No Teams) plan does not include Microsoft Teams, which helps reduce the cost. "

Please share Microsoft official documentations for this please.

This would add clarity to a very vague topic.

    Regards

Good day! Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community. We'll be happy to help!

First of all, we regret for the inconvenience caused to your work. Based on your description, I have a general understanding of your question, yes, you can suggest and provide Microsoft 365 Business Basic (No Team) licenses to help reduce costs. Here’s how you can proceed:

Microsoft 365 Business Basic (No Team) licenses offer the following features:

To get more details please kindly check: Compare Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365

    Here are detailed steps:

    1. Renew Existing Licenses: Renew the 300 Microsoft 365 Business Basic licenses as usual.
    2. Purchase New Licenses: Purchase 250 Microsoft 365 Business Basic (No Team) licenses.
    3. Assign Licenses: In the Microsoft 365 admin center, assign the new licenses to the respective users. You can manage licenses under the "Active Users" section by selecting users and assigning the appropriate licenses. For your reference: Assign or unassign licenses for users in the Microsoft 365 admin center - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

    In addition, please kindly note:

    • Ensure that the new licenses meet the customer’s requirements, especially if they rely on Microsoft Teams for collaboration.
    • Verify that the transition does not disrupt any ongoing workflows or services.

Meanwhile, if you still need further help or I misunderstood your meaning, please kindly correct me and share more details with me so that I can do more research and tests, thanks.

Thank you in advance for your understanding. Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated. I hope for all the best!
