Formatting Horizontal Lines

Hello. I am currently updating a resume and trying to use Horizontal Lines to separate areas of experience. Within each area are a series of bullets. However, when I complete the bullets, go to the next line, and then try to add the Horizontal Line, the Horizontal Line follows the indentation of the bullets above it. I want the Horizontal Line to start with zero indentation. I have tried adding Line breaks and section breaks, but I cannot get the two indentations to unlink. Is there a way to do so?

This is more complicated than you would think!

This is a a combination of at least three Word features:

    • Bullets (and numbering) - lists
    • Paragraph Formatting
    • Borders

The simplest method is going to be to go to the paragraph before the last horizontal rule and copy and paste that format to where you want it.

Ctrl+Shift+C to copy the format, move to where you want it, and Ctrl+Shift+V to paste. (or use Format Painter on Home tab).

Not sure what you mean by "add the horizontal line."

You can type your first area and bullets

Then for the second area you can apply a top border to the paragraph and press enter. Remove the border from the new paragraph and begin your bullets.

    Repeat

Thank you. I was trying to add horizontal lines using the _ _ _ ENTER function. Once I started to enter them as a border, I was able to get them to function how I wanted.

    I appreciate the help.
