Do I really need "Connected Experiences" to export a Powerpoint file?

I am attempting to export a powerpoint file. I have also tried "Save As." I need it to be a PDF, but JPG would also be ok. I am using the most recent desktop version of Office (downloaded earlier this month). I am not using cloud file storage. I have disabled Copilot and other "Connected Experiences." These are non-negotiable for me.

However, when I go to export, I get a generic popup that says my privacy settings must enable Connected Experiences in order to complete the task. "Use Office Connected Experiences: to enable this experience, change your privacy preferences"

Why can't I do this basic task anymore? Is there a workaround to restore this basic functionality?

I think this is the final straw for me. Hello LibreOffice!

I don't think export to JPEG uses a software service. I think that is done locally on your Mac. Exporting to PDF definitely requires the connected experiences to be enabled, but, as Bob pointed out, you can use File > Print and let your printer driver do the work.

If using the Export or Save/Save As methods, yes, Connected Experiences must be enabled because the process is handled by a remote server.

If you don't want to enable Connected Experiences use the macOS method in the Print dialog. Otherwise you'll need to use a 3rd party PDF creator app.
