How to revert the old (classic) view of Excel?

My Excel changed its look out of nowhere. Tabs are now looking different (more round) and scaling is off. Is there a way to revert to a previous original look which looks much cleaner and more professional?

I think Microsoft has reduced the quality in developing Excel applications with this display. From a professional perspective, a rounded and large appearance is inefficient for work. I believe that instead of focusing on making the appearance more 'childish, and not space-effective' it would be better to enhance performance or to fix the problems.

In the top left, select File > then Options at the bottom> in General tab under Personalise your copy of Microsoft Office >drop down the Office Theme menu and select colourful.

Seams to be back to how it was before for me, no idea why they tell you to switch to an earlier version, not like we don't pay them enough for the product to be up to date.

    Hi Ruslan (Rus) Akhmadiev,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, it seems like that you wish to revert the view of your Excel app to a previous version, we can fully understand your distress and will do everything we can to help you.

    1. Could you please specify which version of Excel you are currently using? You can find this information by opening an Excel worksheet, clicking on 'File', then 'Account', where your Excel product details should be displayed in the middle of the screen.
    2. Are you referring to the classic view of Excel like this? If that's the case, you may need to rollback to an earlier version to regain that view, as the modern Office design started rolling out from 2021 onwards. You can refer to this link: Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps for instructions on how to revert your Office installation to a version prior to v2108.

Please share the outcome of these troubleshooting steps with us. We look forward to your update. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us!

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Best Regards,

Thomas C - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
