The concept of your reply is valid but the instructions apply only to Word for Windows, not Word for Mac. Pleas correct or delete the reply.

PS: The Underline style can be changed by clicking the on the Underline tool on the Home tab. (More options are available by going to Format> Font in the menu bar.)

The problem is that the form was improperly designed. You can't alter that unless you recreate the blank lines using the method described in the article to which Luc Sanders provided the link.

A makeshift alternative is to turn on the Underline font formatting attribute before typing the response or type the response then select the text & apply the Underline attribute.

Tracy, please correct or remove your reply. Windows-only iinstructions to assist Windows users have no place here in the Mac forum.

    Avinav,

Read the article on Suzanne Barnhills site, this should shed some light on your problem: http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/LinesInForms.htm

    Dear Avinav Sharma

Thanks for raising your concerns in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you want to have a horizontal line under the text.

I'm sorry that I misunderstood your question and gave you the wrong solution. For Mac, how do you add an underline?

You can try using the shortcut [Option+Shift+Space] directly, which will add an underline. If you enter text on the underline, it will be displayed on the underline.

You can also refer to Luc's answer, which also provides solutions and ideas.

I hope this is helpful to you. If my understanding is wrong, please reply to correct it. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas filled with joy and warmth🎄!

    Best Regards,

Tracy - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
