Why the "Copy Link" button is not functioning when I am accessing a shared folder using my own Gmail account?

My colleague shared a folder via OneDrive with my personal Gmail account using his work email. He has granted access with the 'Anyone can edit' permission. However, when I accessed the shared folder through the email notification, it redirected me to the OneDrive page associated with my Gmail account, where I encountered an issue: the 'Copy Link' button was not functioning.

    Dear SamGoh98,

Thank you for providing the information. Based on the information provided would you please clarify one thing? As far as I understand, when a user accesses data that has been shared by another user (acting as the sender), there are two primary sharing methods: Copy link and send.

    1. Copy link: When the sender uses the 'Copy link' option and shares the link, clicking on the link opens the file, and a copy of the file may be temporarily stored in the recipient’s OneDrive account.
    2. Send option: When the sender uses the 'Send' function, the file is not stored in the recipient’s OneDrive by default. Instead, when the recipient modifies the file, a version of the file may be saved in their OneDrive during that process.

As the recipient, you don’t need to go through the 'Copy link' method unless you intend to share the file further. Additionally, recent changes from Microsoft require that if you want to share a file with an external user, that user must first be added to the Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) as a guest user. Furthermore, since Microsoft is enforcing multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all tenants, even guest users must complete the MFA process before they can access shared data.

I hope you will understand the scenario. I am looking forward to your response for further assistance.

Thank you for your understanding. Your cooperation and contributions are greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Nahid Sultan

    Hi,

Yes, I did. I typed the email address manually for the receiver and already choose "Anyone with the link" for the copy link option. However, the Copy link button still not functioning when I opened the shared folder using my Gmail account.

Kindly refer to the figure below for reference.

    Than you.

    Dear SamGoh98,

    Good day to you!

I hope you are doing well. Thank you for the information. Based on your provided information, it seems that you share a file or folder by copying the link and sending it via email, if I am not mistaken. In this scenario, I would recommend sharing the file or folder by typing the email address directly instead of copying the link and then checking the result. For example, I am sharing screenshot below.

I am looking forward to your result for further assistance.

Thank you for your understanding. Your cooperation and contributions are greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Nahid Sultan

    Dear Nahid Sultan,

I attempted the solution you suggested in your previous message by sharing a file from my work email to my Gmail account. Unfortunately, the issue persists, and there has been no change.

    1. Are you experiencing the error with a particular folder, or does it occur with every folder or file?
    2. Could you please share a full screenshot of the error message?
    3. Are other users also encountering the same issue?

    Answer:

    1. It occurs to every file/folder I shared.
    2. There is no any error message as nothing pops out after I clicked the "Copy link" button.
    3. This only happens when I shared to Gmail account. There is no issue when I shared to my colleague's work email.

Thank you for your fast respond.

    Dear SamGoh98,

    Good day to you!

I hope you are doing well. Thanks for reaching out to our Microsoft Community Forum. We will be happy to help you.

According to your description, when your colleague shares a folder with your personal email address, you are unable to access the file. Could you confirm whether your colleague selected the Anyone with the link option when sharing the folder? If the sender did not choose the Anyone link, you might not be able to access the folder. I have attached screenshots below for your reference.

Meanwhile, if you could share more information, it would help us identify the issue and provide more accurate guidance.

    1. Are you experiencing the error with a particular folder, or does it occur with every folder or file?
    2. Could you please share a full screenshot of the error message?
    3. Are other users also encountering the same issue?

I would like to acknowledge that my initial response may not resolve your current situation immediately. However, with your input and some additional specific details, we can work together to identify a clear solution for your current challenge.

I am looking forward to your response for further assistance.

Thank you for your understanding. Your cooperation and contributions are greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Nahid Sultan
