A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Dear SamGoh98,
Thank you for providing the information. Based on the information provided would you please clarify one thing? As far as I understand, when a user accesses data that has been shared by another user (acting as the sender), there are two primary sharing methods: Copy link and send.
- Copy link: When the sender uses the 'Copy link' option and shares the link, clicking on the link opens the file, and a copy of the file may be temporarily stored in the recipient’s OneDrive account.
- Send option: When the sender uses the 'Send' function, the file is not stored in the recipient’s OneDrive by default. Instead, when the recipient modifies the file, a version of the file may be saved in their OneDrive during that process.
As the recipient, you don’t need to go through the 'Copy link' method unless you intend to share the file further. Additionally, recent changes from Microsoft require that if you want to share a file with an external user, that user must first be added to the Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) as a guest user. Furthermore, since Microsoft is enforcing multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all tenants, even guest users must complete the MFA process before they can access shared data.
I hope you will understand the scenario. I am looking forward to your response for further assistance.
Thank you for your understanding. Your cooperation and contributions are greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Nahid Sultan
