How do I delete a bookmark in word online?

I'm trying to delete a stubborn bookmark in office 365. I have tried everything I've found online and copilot's suggestions. Pressing bookmarks only drops down a small menu that says new bookmark, all bookmarks, and show on document. There are no ellipses. The navigation pane has no delete button. Trying to highlight and delete does nothing. Highlighting and clicking on the bookmark button only opens the same dropdown of new, all, show. Trying to pull up the bookmark display box directly with crtl + shift + f5 does nothing. I tried accessing from a different browser (firefox and edge) to see if that was the problem. Another person has also tried from their computer and couldn't delete it. I'm stumped.

Sorry for not uploading an image, but it refuses to upload.

I think you're referring to a bookmark around text inside a document. You're correct that the Bookmark button's menu on the Insert ribbon in Word Online doesn't contain a Delete item (although it would be nice if it did). The procedure is quite different from the one in desktop Word.

Start by clicking the bookmark symbol in the left margin near the bookmarked text. That will highlight the text and show square brackets around it. Now right-click the text, and you'll find a Remove Bookmark item in the menu.

Hi Sarah, Click on the App launcher>Then on Microsoft 365>Then right click on the Bookmark>You should see remove Bookmark. I have already done all this and removed a Bookmark created for the test. It removed the Bookmark, but left an empty comment. So I deleted my reply to you. But I went back to where the leftover comment was and it has gone. So, give it a try. I can tell you that clicking on the App launcher and then on Microsoft 365, does give more control over document, such as 'delete'.
