How to stop word from automatically changing fonts.

I have had MS 365 since June. When I first purchased it, I set up all my files, Outlook, Microsft, et to use as default Tahoma 12. It's just what I like. In Microsoft Word I start a document, it begins with Tahoma, when I hit enter, to go to a new paragraph, it changes to Aptos Display 10.5. I write what I'm writing, hit enter for the next paragraph, it goes back to Tahoma. It does that alternating throughout every word file, every single time!! I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change it. I end up at the end of what I need to write choosing select all, then making it all the same font and size.

I never had this problem until I downloaded MS 365. Can someone please help me figure out a fix? Oh, it does not do it in Outlook, only in Word.

Can you please create a sample document with the problem and save it on OneDrive or DropBox. Then post a link here so we can look at it.

Why a sample file is important for troubleshooting - - - - - - - and how to do it.

One thing you could do there is look at the formatting in the different paragraphs using Shift+F1.

In Word for Windows, try the following: Create a new, blank document (press Ctrl+N). Open the Font dialog box, for example by pressing Ctrl+D. Choose the font and size you prefer. Click the Set as Default button.

When prompted, choose to change the default for your Normal template:

Later, if/when you are prompted to save the template, choose to do so. Word modifies the Normal style and the document defaults in the template and saves the changes.

    Restart Word.

Note that individual styles in a Word document or template could still have a different font & size if you apply that style to text.

Also, note that existing documents won't be modified as you change the defaults.

I tried the other steps you mentioned and have no idea how to do that. I even tried to google. I did a search on my computer, in the box in the middle of the screen, but just didn't seem to figure it out.

I opened a Word doc, under file, went to options, set default, and save.

I tried all these steps, I believe this is one way that I have tried to set defaults, closed everything, it still is happening. I did notice when apos is being used, there is a little black triangle in the top left corner.

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

I understand that It is really annoying that after you set the default font, Word still changes the font automatically. Please don't worry, I will do everything I can to help you.

I would like to confirm more specific information with you so that I can more accurately determine the problem you are encountering and better assist you:

    • Could you please share with me the specific steps you took to set the default font and the specific version of your Word so that I can help you test it later?
    • Check the products under your account: You can do the following:  Open Word > "File" in the top left corner > "Account" in the bottom left corner> share the screenshot of the product information displayed on the right with me  so that I can help you more specifically

Once I have obtained more information about the above, I will be able to provide you with more targeted assistance. Before replying, based on the issue you mentioned, it is recommended that you can try the following steps:

Ensure that there are no files in the following folders:

    1. Navigate to C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART Press Enter, and check if there are any files. If there are, cut and paste them to the desktop for backup. If not, close the window. (You may need to check "Hidden items" under View in File Explorer to see the AppData folder.)
    2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\XLSTART  or C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\XLSTART, and check if there are any files. If there are, cut and paste them to the desktop for backup. If not, close the window.
